The Royal de Luxe Parade in Nantes, celebrating Jules Verne from what I can gather. A staggeringly beautiful event, go see! I may weep. (via the greatwaxy.org)

Awesome, thanks Scoo.

Don't miss the fascinating photo gallery that shows some of the behind-the-scenes technical aspects of how this was put together.

This parade is part of the year of Jules Verne celebrations. You can find a calendar of events here.

Royal de Lux is the name of the artists/company that put this together. Here are some photos of them from 2000, for example, and their giant giraffe.

I'd never seen anything like it before, but sure hope to see more.

Royal de Lux are awesome, I saw one of their shows back in the 80s - they performed in a huge car park behind a football stadium. Thirty, forty, maybe more, performers staging the French Revolution. The night before some of them were arrested in town (Utrecht, The Netherlands) for drunken behaviour and stealing bikes, I believe.

Thanks for the links, it's good to know they're still around.

This is staggering. All of it, but especially the elephant, is surreally real. What a show.

Sacre merde!

Talk about attention to detail: Pictures of trampled cars (by the "elephant")

You must be this tall to ride the elephant.

These are stunning. Puts the Macy's parade to shame.
