Chalk One Up for Julian

Julians Beever draws on sidewalks with chalk. His drawings range from insects to commercial objects to self portraits. I don't know if he designs them on a his laptop, but as with LCD screens, viewing angle is critically important.

I walk by a street artist everyday who recreates renaissance paintings in chalk on the sidewalk. I thought that was pretty cool until this post - these pictures here are amazing. The 3-d effect is very impressive. Thanks for the post.

It sometimes seems that corporate anything is anathema to many urban artists (and not without reason). It's refreshing to see one who very clearly doesn't let things like that factor into his decisions regarding what to draw.

Wow... how inspiring. The thing about this kind of art that I find difficult to come to terms with is the reality that it's temporary... all that work and beauty, just to be washed away someday. Sand castles are the same way.

Awesome.

These are simply breath taking. Wish I could see them in person - I can't seem to convince myself that they're all illusions.

Oh man, until I saw the pool picture from a different angle, I had no idea how hard it'd be to pull these off. Holy shit.

When he draws a 4-D hypersphere on that 2-D pavement I'll be even more impressed ;)
