Another Minsk gives another view of the decaying city.

Some nice pictures. I'm always fascinated by urban decay (especially on this level).

So what's up with Minsk? Are these just very carefully selected photos, or is the city going extinct, or what?

I think there might be a lot of crumbling places in Russia, at least there seems to be a huge Russian contigent on LJ groups like Abandoned Places.

And be gentle, it's my first post.

Nice post. The pictures are great. I just wish there were more comments about what we are seeing. (I love urban exploration)

Cool - thanks for the link and the great pictures of entropy and decay.

Looks quite different from when LHO lived there.

These pictures sure bring up memories. When I was little, I loved exploring all those abandoned (and not so abandoned) construction sites and such. Around Moscow though, never been to Minsk...

This picture is the best, IMO.

Great post! For some striking shots, check out the crane cemetery.

mr.marx: Good to remind people of that; it's going to be a while before we all get used to the post-Soviet world.

Very cool. I've always had a longing to take the Trans-Siberian. Or just see Russia in general. Nice link.

If you ever fancy a holiday in Minsk (it's in Belarus, though, not Russia) print out this excellent pdf tourist guide. Sounds great - "Most hotel lobbies are infested with prostitutes, who are apt to call lone males in their rooms late at night."

From inyourpocket.com - travel guides to mainly Eastern Europe and, oddly, Belfast.

Gorgeous photography. Probably the best abandoned places work I've seen -- so many exploit only the weird/lonely angle and ignore the larger aesthetic.
