I'm always wary of websites that take information and don't provide any about themselves. No About Fixr, no nothing.

But I like the Unphotographable link, that's pretty good stuff.

Weird, I was just thinking about this. I took some photos in central park this weekend, and tagged them with "centralpark" on flickr. Then I went to look at the other photos tagged with that, and of course the first ones were also from this weekend, and of some of the same subjects. Maybe they were taken by some of the other people I saw taking photos, maybe not, but close enough that if I didn't have my camera, I would have been okay with that.

"just submit a detailled description of the moment you missed."

Sounds like a way to harvest lots of flicker screen names in order to. Well. Do something diabolical.

Plus its registered to a P.O. Box in the Cayman Islands -- classy.

That said, I think the idea is hilarious.

So who's going to be the first to fake a MeFi Meetup?

I asked fixr to send me a photo of this one time, when I ran a webscam to harvest fliker addresses, and it showed up on Metafilter, and then I posted three lousy photos of a guy with cheese doodles up his nose, a sunset and some weird chinese version of an old suntan lotion ad, and then sat back and laughed in my fake aeron chair...that was awesome - wish I had a camera.

wow, they could totally use your flickr name to...
to...
to look at you on flickr!

oh noes!

Anyway, I submitted an unphotographed drunk kiss i got from a lesbian. I guess that sounds commonplace, but she's not the "let's get drunk and kiss boys" type of lesbian. It won't happen to me again, and I'd like a shot of it.

I got round that whole "harvesting flickr screen names" thing by leaving that field blank. I'll let you know how they get on with faking a picture of a day trip to the National Museum of Film and Photography in Bradford with a group of 30 seventeen year olds.

Disgressing: I was at the free film at bryant park the other day and there was, unsurprisingly, a lot of digital photographs being taken by the thousand-ish people that were crammed onto the lawn, and it did occur to me that in only a few years time, with GPS as standard EXIF data, that events like that would be able to be reconstructed pretty solidly from scaping flickr and its competitors.

Out of curiosity - what do you think that people would want with people's flickr names and addresses? I mean, obviously, there are people out there that enjoy/profit gathering emails - but why focus on that particular demographic? Some kind of flickr spam? consolidating tags? Photographic enlargements?

It sure doesn't make them look any more legitimate. Every phishing email i ever got was riddled with typos. C'mon, if this ain't a spoof, i don't know what it is.

I can understand not wanting to give out your flickr screenname (I guess....), no, I take that back, I wouldn't be too worried about them doing something... diabolical with my flickr screenname, but if I were concerned, as handee pointed out, the flickr thing is optional. Chill out, people, this site is hilarious.

It reminds me of I Found Some of Your Life. (archive, mefi).
