Not a bad job at all in emulating Roald Dahl's style and pacing. I'll definitely read the rest of it when I can get a moment.

Good to know someone's carrying the torch since the master passed.

Ms. Borgstrom is a phenomenal writer, although incredibly obtuse at times. Perhaps delightfully obtuse.

Her work on the Nobilis game is absolutely phenomenal, though the game itself can get mind-warpingly weird.

Heheh, I find it amusing the polarity in the comments. For my part, I find her writing quite remarkable. Dahl for certain, and perhaps a wee bit of Madelaine L'Engle as well, but that could be just me.

Her work on the Nobilis game is absolutely phenomenal, though the game itself can get mind-warpingly weird.

I looked up Nobilis and was quite frankly amazed at what it seems to be. As an RP gamer since God was a lad, and a fan of diceless and other non-mainstream systems, I'm a bit surprised and embarrassed that I've never heard of it before now. Seems like just the thing for my old gaming buddies and I to find an excuse to gather around a bottle of 12 year old Springbank and spend the evening discussing and not actually playing.

That's one of the strong suits of Nobilis, sure enough. I've never succeeded in having any sort of campaign get off the ground, but the setup sessions--consisting purely of increasingly animatedly bouncing ideas off one another, hammering out the broad strokes of what the characters will be, what their home base is like, what their patron god/demon/thing/etc. is--are pure gold and justify the purchase by themselves.

Even if she hadn't written Nobilis, Rebecca would still be one of the most jawdropping people on the planet simply for being able to produce a piece of fiction of this quality and length, every day, and have them bind together into an interlinked body that is complex, compelling, strange and beautiful.

The first anthology of Hitherby Dragons stories, Primal Chaos, is available from Lulu. I recommend it very highly. On the other hand I published Nobilis, so I may be biased.
