Some of the photos taken from the closed roller-coaster seem...horrifying and dangerous [but cool]

the only horrifying thing about this amusement park is its lack of funnel cakes.

Those don't look so terrible to me. It doesn't look like it's been closed for very long. This sight in Korea, on the other hand, creeps the hell out of me.

That kind of environment bodes well for the kind of music I like to listen to. All that's needed to complete the scenario are dark clouds and crows abound.

So... corny music, then?

are open amusement parks any less creepy?

Um, it might have been creepyer if they'd figured out how to set the white ballance on their camera, or take a good picture.

As it is, the photography seems pretty bland to me.

I agree. Ho-hum photography of a neat location.

I like the set because I love abandoned places but the pictures don't strike me as creepy at all. Of course I can say that knowing I am on the other side of the world and will never be stuck there alone at night,

There's a band by the name Amusement Parks on Fire. Good stuff.

A white faced green haired man dressed in a purple suit was spotted running from the park chased by what appeared to be a gigantic bat.

My word psmealey - that DPRK hotel is positively cyclopean. It also reminds me of the old Sierra game, Manhunter SF.

It sure is, my purple friend! (Great word, btw). Here's a better (1200x1600) picture of it, and the wiki.

psmealy, that also creeps me out. Oddly enough, the hotel looks like the fighter in Galaga. Hmmmmm

Well, you have to work with what you've got.

There are some great pics of abandoned parks of the US out there.... Here are some.

Kind of neat, would make a really good arena ground for paintball wars.

psmealey - thanks for the big pic, and I always thought that cyclopean was a Lovecraftian invention, but that word might not mean what I think it means.

Interesting pictures ... I wish that there was commentary to go along with them.

Wow, that's the least creepy closed carnival I've ever seen or imagined. Rather bright, actually.

And psmeasley, that looks like a harbinger of the end times. Or Cthulhu at the very least.

PLEASE see the filmChihiro if this post inspired you.
I don't know if it came out in the US.
In France it was huge. Le VOyage de Chihiro.
Really excellent!

OK, but where are the pictures of Scooby Doo, Shaggy and the rest of the gang?

I know they're in there somewhere, chasing down the criminally involved owner who has disguised himself as the park's ghost...

On a Bahamas sailing trip eight or nine years ago, the boat we were on stopped off at an island that supposedly had some great reefs to snorkel. We discovered upon arrival that the island had been used as a resort by Disney, as part of the "Big Red Boat" cruise thing. However, access issues forced them to abandon it, and it was literally abandoned without any care as to the property- we found stage costumes scattered all over the ground, entire restaurant kitchens still somewhat intact (although very scavenged), bunk beds infested with critters- it literally looked like everyone just got up and left.

We never did get to see the reefs because the path to them was so overgrown we couldn't pass. But, being a bunch of unsupervised 14-18 year olds, we spent our time productively destroying everything we could.

Good times.
