Explosion rocks downtown Washington D.C.
posted by grateful (26 comments total)

This post was deleted for the following reason: Not actually an explosion

Is this for real? All these sources only mention a suspicious vehicle for now.

Not according to your links. What gives?

Bomb threats I see - where's the fire?

Has the race to be the first to post gone so far that we preemptively post things that might happen?

Doesn't sound like it exploded.

Police just disrupted a suspicious package in a car parked outside the Capitol.

unless you heard the explosion personally directly..I dunno how you infer explosion.

I live a block from there, and I have not been rocked. There wasn't an explosion.

What a goddamned waste of an FPP.

If you say there's an explosion, there had better fucking be an explosion.

grateful, may the gods piss on your face for your FPP.

do you lack the ability to differentiate between perceived and real events?

I hope that car explodes soon, for grateful's sake.

Lexington Ave bet. 41st and 42nd was just closed off due to a suspicious package too. (it was a briefcase, and they reopened the street a little later)

My package is looking pretty suspicious this morning, too. Maybe we should cordon off the area.

I don't think I've ever gone so far as to argue that a post shouldn't have been made. I'm not interested so much in seeing what a group of people considers to be the best of the web as I am in seeing what that group of people chooses to do with a collaborative weblog. So if you post, you know, an interview with one of the stars of Queer Eye, I'm not going to object. I mean, I'm not going to read the article or participate in the thread, but I'm also not going to flag it or complain to anyone. I just don't consider its presence a problem. I'm never in favor of deletions, even if I think the post is obnoxious or even a cover for an advertising campaign (happens every once in a while).

This post, though, really ought to be deleted. I mean, seriously. For a second, I thought we were experiencing 9-11, the sequel. I think this crosses the line. At the very least, change the wording of the lead in.

At least it wasn't a one-link post.

Are you trying out for a position at Fox news?
posted by 2sheets at 10:23 AM on October 21, 2005

seriously, I got chased out of the subway this morning by MTA cops, followed by acrid clouds of smoke. even those cops didn't yell fire. (just, 'it's closed!')

even in the 1st amendment right to ghoulishness, this fails the test.

In other news, the Partridge Family is reported to be "just about" to rock and roll, baby.

There's a traffic cam two blocks away that is zooming in on the scene, so you can watch it live. I haven't been able to figure out how to link directly, so you'll need to go to the traffic cam site and click on the green dot at 3rd and Constitution.

By the way, I work just on the other side of Capitol Hill, and I live on Constitution, though about a mile and a half away.
