I'm curious where the clonetrooper on the right went off to.

I like the way the stormtroopers bob their heads. Yoda is annoying. Cut him out. I want more bobble-headed stormtroopers.

also. if there are anymore satirical breakdancing videos out there besides yoda, cars, and transformers, i would like to see them front-and-center, posthaste.

i feel like this is the sort of thread that i should see on friday night upon returning from the bars or something. must be a slow week. :)

Even the Star Wars easter eggs suck. At least Lucas is consistently crappy. (Of course, I will watch each and every one of them.)

Does "breakdancing for the pope" fit the bill?

Smooth. Yoda might have a shot as "America's Next Muppet."

I can't see Star Wars fans and hip-hop mixing that well.

Okay, that Chewie one basically made me shit my pants. If we keep bickering enough, even more ridiculous things will show up.
posted by ScotchLynx at 10:46 PM on October 27, 2005

So...this isn't something a college kid produced in his dorm room? They actually made this at Skywalker Whateverthehell, or Industrial Light and Something? Don't these digital effects cost, like, forty bazillion dollars? And that's what they spend their time doing?

I think it's funny and all...but Lucas actually allows this?
posted by cribcage at 10:57 PM on October 27, 2005

Skygazer: i believe the preferred nomenclature is "wack."

ScotchLynx: If we keep bickering enough, even more ridiculous things will show up.

good!

oh, and jonson -- thanks for the 'haters' tag. this thread is going to kill my supreme court bid. sigh.

Loved the transformers. I love transformers, hip hop and star wars, but for me the transformers-hip hop crossover sits much more comfortably.

Also the dancing was better :D

Wow, who knew Lucas was so hep? Bet he has a swingin' hi-fi system in his "pad", too. He's just happening and really making the scene. If he can do something so "with it", I guess Star Wars doesn't blow after all. 23 Skiddoo!

Now where's my raccoon coat...

I just found out last night that the voice of Yoda, Frank Oz, also does the voices of Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, Sesame Street's Bert and Cookie Monster, and many other Muppet/Sesame Street characters.

He's also directed many films (among them Little Shop of Horrors, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and the remake of The Stepford Wives). When he directed The Score starring Robert De Niro and Marlon Brando, Brando insisted on Oz directing him in the voice of Miss Piggy, and Oz obliged.

I bet everyone else knew all about this, but I was so amazed to read about it last night...OK, that is all *slinks away*.

Just FYI, he's also in the Blues Brothers (the scene at the beginning where Jake gets his belongs as he leaves jail) and reprises the role in Trading Places, when Louis is booked at the police station ("It's an o-pe-ra!")

Maybe next time they could spend more time making better movies as opposed to animating "hip-hop yoda". They might have actually sold me a DVD that way.
posted by thanatogenous at 9:47 AM on October 28, 2005

All that CGI and Yoda still can't dance. I still much prefer the puppet from Jedi.

Loved the Chewie link on this thread, though.

Or, in retrospect -- I think I would have preferred an entire movie of CGI Star Wars characters doing some really kickass breakdancing.

Yeah, when I read about his cameos in John Landis' films I instantly pictured his face in The Blues Brothers.

Also:

"[Frank Oz] has appeared in many of Director John Landis's films, as a good luck charm of sorts. He did not appear in Twilight Zone: The Movie (1983), and Landis had plenty of bad luck during that film [Vic Morrow was decapitated by a helicopter rotor during filming]..." -- imdb
