Lightning Break! Fun flash snooker-based game. Make trick shots in the allotted time. The game also keeps a record of your stats.

The same authors make lightning pool, if you prefer a different game. The best straight pool game I've found is this one (uses Java).

For a snooker game this has pretty scary sound effects.

Did anyone ever play a billiards game for the Mac Plus that had sound effects like a creeky haunted door opening every time you hit some balls?

I've been playing this for about the last month. I love it, but I find the lightning bolts make for too much of an arbitrary game sometimes...

The game also keeps a record of your stats.

I'm sorry, but where is their privacy policy? How do I know that these records will not be turned over to the FBI under the USA PATRIOT Act? I cannot endorse a website that is blah blah blah.

Oh a more serious tip, this is fun! Can anyone actually explain to me how snooker or billiards is actually played? I know how to play 8 and 9 ball, plus Patriot/Cutthroat, etc. But how do you play those games where there's no pockets and the balls are all the same colors? I've never found a site that can explain the game to someone who's never played it.

Start here, and follow the lessons to the end.

All the white screen flashes (when I 'foul') are giving me epilepsy! I'd probably be a better player if my pupils weren't scared to look at the screen...

Wow, I really suck at Flash-based snooker.

Something else I find annoying is that you have to buy credits to win prizes, and that those prizes are only available in the UK.
On the other hand, seeing the well over 1 million high score does seem to imply that I'm not gonna win a damned thing, as my best best best high score was somewhere around 100k.

I was helplessly and hopelessly addicted to that game for a while last year (Thanks to my then-12-year-old daughter who showed it to me). Now you've posted a new link. I must go and play. Oh dear...

great. a pool game where I can't get into the zone by downing a couple of pints. This reminds me of my favorite game I could get working on my C64.

So do I, and this shows how realistic it is, because I suck at real pool, too.

I wonder if I'll think about the time spent playing this game when I'm on my deathbed. I shudder at the thought.

weirdoactor: "Ok, I will assume you have a very basic knowledge in the basic principles of play."

Nope. Thanks for the link, though. Still looking...

Eideteker, are you just asking the basic course of snooker play? If so, 15 plain unmarked red balls are racked. Then there are numbered balls 2-7 placed on specific spots. You first attempt to pocket a red ball. If successful, then attempt to pocket a numbered ball. The numbered ball gets respotted , if pocketed. You score points equal to the number on the ball, or 1 for a red ball. Upon missing, switch turns, duh. Even if you are on a numbered ball, and miss, your opponent has to start with a red ball. Play till last of the reds is gone. Tally the scores. Well, that's how I was taught to play (it's been 4 years). I haven't obviously covered the technicalities.

I just realized that with RC 3 of Firefox, Flash is no longer broken when I scroll! Wooooooooo!!!1!

Fun game, but snooker is a lot less hilarious than its name sounds.

Wait; so if snooker has pockets, then what's the game where there are no pockets?

That would be billiards...

And Damn, Level 7 has me beat

The GUI is awful. It's so 90s!

But yeah it was fun. Cheers.
