Arm-chair travel for the work-bound

Ball of Dirt. Me, I'm stuck going home to Ohio for my vacation. If you can't get away either, you can scratch your travel itch by reading about other people's adventures... Torture yourself by searching for dreamed-of destinations. I especially enjoy the Indiana Jones-type maps.

This is awesome. Starting next Friday, I'm going to be driving WTF-knows-where around Eastern Europe for two weeks. Maybe I'll attempt a journal.

Then again, it's very likely going to be 14 days constantly alternating between wildly intoxicated and driving with a hangover. Finding an Internet cafe will probably be pretty low on the ol' list.

Lovely! This is added to my "I wish I was anywhere but here" surfing list! See also: Travelblog.

Speaking of Indiana Jones-type maps, there used to be a cool Flash/XML app called IndyJunior (example/description), but the link doesn't work any more.

Joshua Davis has a nifty one, too (click "Travel Map" at the bottom of the navigation).

I'm not usually very impressed with these travel journal sites, and this one's navigational interface seems totally unintuitive at first. Still, I'm a sucker for travel journals & I really like the crisscrossing-the-world map you end up with if you actually make journal entries..
