Thanks! Several good fonts here, I especially like Lisboa (but not the italic) and Freight - though I don't understand the praise for Deréon or Ministry. Interensting that Slimbach is still working on Garamond.

Reminds me of a story... at a design conference in Switzerland some years ago, Wolfgang Weingart slowly raised his hand to ask Mathew Carter why we needed another typeface. Carter had just given a short talk about his ITC Galliard I think. Carter gave a vague, babbling answer that trailed off at the end -- there wasn't much of substance in the response. Weingart again slowly raised his hand and started rubbing his thumb against his fingers -- "Money. That's really the only reason."

sigh... Matthew, not Mathew. I hate to leaving off a well-designed "t"...

Cezanne???
Garda, Arrival, and Relato are great tho. I think last year's picks were better, on the whole.

The Cezanne and Frieght families look great, dunno about the rest. I'd much rather see tasteful stuff in Cezanne than the overly curvy wedding font messes people usually use.

Why do we need more music? Money. That's really the only reason.

nice.
dif'rent strokes
I really like the Ministry - an excellent counterpoint to regular 'nuptial' script, superb ligs. . . classy & a bit more fun too.
excellent links to the phreebies as well.
As a long-time fan of Beast
I was delighted to see Eduardo Recife's distressed type for d/l.
Its not easy making such a beautiful typographic 'mess' so fitting for collage and decalcomania.
after all the heated political pointed sticking and other assorted trollishments, it is wonderful to have the occasional aesthetic breath of phreshness.
pha pha phresh.

Great story, mania. I love me some fonts well enough (the films on those DVD comps of font announcements can be brilliant), but damn if true font freaks don't make me laugh sometimes. It wanders into angels on the head of a pin territory pretty quickly. It's the seriousness with which they take the whole thing that surprises me, I think.
