Bugs. Orisinal has been linked to several times, but this game was so fun that I had to share. NQFFF: Not Quite Friday Flash Fun.

Bugs is one of my all-time favorite Orisinal games, even though it's the newest. Just joyful.

I couldn't figure out how to play that one. The "bubble" looked more like a spreading pool of urine. I tried to drown the bugs in my urine but wasn't able to score any points that way. I gave up.

Orisinal is a distance-blurred pastel butterfly, chiming and burbling gently as it fluttersby bubbles and stars and birds and the garden that is the MeFi frontpage. It may visit repeatedly, but it always lands on different flowers, and brings good cheer on it's lovingly patterned wings.

Orisinal is a nice site, but the browser-resizing, not so much.

The music for this one makes me want to go to a Renaissance Faire, and that can't be forgiven.

calming and enjoyable if brief.

I couldn't figure out how to play that one.

Use the bubbles to jump, the size of your bubble affects the height of your jump, which chases away more bugs. If you or your bubble gets hit by a bug, you lose a life. Grab the green power-up to make your bubble invincible. 20 bugs is the most you can get with one jump (I think).

First saw this one on the wonderful Jay Is Flash games blog.. Orisinal? Not so much for me. Pop Pirates? Yes. (despite the sponsor).

That's what she said.

Sorry.

I dunno. I quickly died twice, but then it seemed like I could go on indefinitely, so I got bored and quit. Does it get any harder?

Sites like this remind me I need to set my js options to disallow window resizing in the advanced settings.

Just to second mrgrimm's recommendation for Pop Pirates. Incredibly addictive and really makes the heart race.
(I do like the bugs game too though, I'll play it in the few moments I'm not playing Pop Pirates.)

Absolutely wonderful.

One more reason I wish my PSP had flash implementation. ><

Something very zen about it.

Still, after 2 minutes...

Beautiful but once I got the hang of it I could go on forever. Faster bugs or something would be good.
posted by joegester at 5:01 PM on December 29, 2005

Faster bugs are exactly what you get. It definitely gets harder. The bugs get faster and they start zeroing in on you. It just happens very, very gradually. Get near 100,000 points and then start over and the difference is extremely noticeable.

I wish there was a way to get more lives...47530 was my highest.

I got to about 99,000. I'm trying to break the high score list to give a MeFi shout out.

I think one reason that I like this game, besides its inherent greatness (meh-ers be damned) is that it is so happy (notice the look of absolute childlike joy that flashes across the girl's face when she reaches the pinnacle of her jump. Of course, you can't blame her, jumping is fun. Go ahead and try it now. Jump as high as you can. Fun no?) especially compared to the other flash game that I have been playing obsessively this week (my boss is on vacation): De-Animator. Dark as hell, but truly a work of art. Discussed on Metafilter previously here.

Also, Go Justinian. I want a shout out.

110870 and I gave a shoutout to all my homies at MeFi.

Note that you can control where you come down after you jump.
posted by dhartung at 6:54 PM on December 29, 2005

Oh, to give an idea of the difficulty scale, on my last game I got to about 85,000 points on my first life, 105,000 on my second, and only got to 110870 before I lost. Obviously some of that was psychological since I knew I'd made the list but it does get much harder. I know the strategy that would get the high score but it would be too boring for me.

Orsinal's astute reduction of our ready brain processes to a gameable set of tasks is so efficient that I almost wish for the NES days when games were dumb and you could win (with ease) by exploiting negligence in programming.

I guess you could call this mind-numbingly fun.
