C4 Hamster Challenge

If you liked those Yeti vs. penguin games, you might enjoy the C4 Hamster Challenge. You are Death Jr. (of PlayStation fame). You have a hamster. The hamster is strapped with C4. If you release the hamster with just the proper strength and speed, and detonate the hamster at just the right spot, you can really send that demon's head flying. (Flash.)

Did not hold my attention as well as Nanaca. Is there more to it than just the head slamming against the wall and the scary guy with huge arms, or is that as far as it goes?

5307 ft. and 4000 bonus = 9307 for one throw.

How do you adjust the speed? Once the head launches, can you do anything, or just watch? I really wanted to kill that skeleton guy. I hit him like 8 times.

Very reminiscent of !!!DROPKICK THE FAINT!!!
posted by mrgrimm at 1:04 PM on January 21, 2006

Ah, speed is just a slider. *Very* similar to dropkickthefaint.

Also, the fact that a bunch of people already have 99,999 on the high scores list is a bit of a disincentive.

Got 23,000 or so, but once you've got it down the far hole how much further it gets is just luck. Bit dull after a go or two.

best score 7042 + 4100 = 11142

Can you kill the monster underground with the arms?
posted by Falconetti at 1:26 PM on January 21, 2006

Over 25,000 after my 6th try, but the 500th score is in the 50,000 range. I suck.

~31000 that time, does "strength" really do anything at all? at the far left of the strength thing i shot it all the way to the right of the landscape. bounced around like a bitch!

update: ghetto ass water!
update: twice off the far edge, killed hella dudes and i get 10,000 points? is this just a random score generator?
posted by BlackLeotardFront at 2:21 PM on January 21, 2006

The score seems entirely random to me. I've done essentially the same thing twice and gotten 10K for it one time, and over 40k for it the next. Makes no sense at all.

Gotta agree with GooseOnTheLoose, I prefered Nanaca. Not that this wasn't fun, but it wasn't as cool either.

Well, this and "Dropkick The Faint" were both developed by the same guy. I imagine he just tweaked the engine a bit and added new art.

Ah, the life of a web developer . . .

I have to say, for a game that involves no skill at all (and just requires you to hit the space bar twice), a played this an obscene number of times. I guess I just like blowing up demons or something.

Sorry, I can't even stand to see the Lemmings explode. Or the OhNo More Lemmings either, come to that.

This was kinda dull. Just got 9449 in Nanaca though.

I agree, Nanaca Crash is more fun and has better sound effects. But this was mildly amusing for a couple of minutes.

I am become death, detroyer of worlds.

But, serious, has anyone blown up that superdemon in the lava pit?
posted by Astro Zombie at 4:38 PM on January 21, 2006

I hit the superdemon 23 times and he did not die. I am going to try not believing in him and see if that works.
posted by Falconetti at 5:32 PM on January 21, 2006

I've come to realize that he cannot die, and, just as in pong you could sometimes get the ball and paddle just right so they would bounce back and forth eternally at an astounding rate of speed, it is possible to do so with the flaming demon head and the lava pit demon, racking your score into uncharted (but presumably no higher than 99,999) territory.

That actually made me LOL.

"I disbelieve!"

I'm with Malor though, the scoring does seem entirely random.

Scoring isn't random. It's distance + however many monsters you hit - check out the top right for the break down. Also, note that the max strength etc is in the middle, not the ends of the bars.
posted by Mossy at 5:09 AM on January 22, 2006

Yeah, I thought the scoring was fairly straightforward, at least with the bonus points -- 500 for each green or purple demon, 200 for each tap on the Big Bad in the lava pit. I must really suck though, because I've never gotten any 10K or 40K bonus like a couple of people here have mentioned. Does that happen if you somehow manage to take out all the demons?

What Nanaca figured out, that none of the clones did, was that you had to have some control for the game to be interesting. It was the way that there was actual strategy to Nanaca and you COULD get better with practice that kept me playing it obsessively for a week.

I got bored with this with one try.
posted by InnocentBystander at 8:47 AM on January 22, 2006

Best score so far was around 39,000 with a nice 12,000 single try score.
posted by vodkadin at 6:14 PM on January 22, 2006

41,866 for me after a few tries. Takes a little skill but a lot of luck on the bounces.
