Trolling for satire

I am stuck on The Borowitz Report and The Onion when it comes to favorite regularly updated satire on the Internet. I also enjoy the Slate cartoons, the JibJab animated cartoons, and Mark Fiore's flash. There is also the Specious Report, and the very meta SatireSearch. I am sure that I am still missing some good satire. MeFi'ers, where do you go for your satire?

Here, a bit amateurish but readable.

Rumor has it, the snark is entertaining in the comments section of metafilter..

I also recommend Metatalk, where people get savaged on a nearly daily basis.

You want funny? You want the Huffington Post. It is nearly impossible to read a word of it without collapsing in spasmodic laughter. And to think that some people actually take this crap seriously just adds to the humor!

cdavidc,

"fark is always a good way to get current events with a bit of a twist"

Meh, I am of the opinion that Fark either edits a lot of their posts, or selectively accepts titles that will start flame wars such as this one.

"Bush still polling at 50% or better in 7 states. Take that, liberals"

Also they seem to throw the "Hero" tag on just about any Bush post. Which, given that there seems to be a lot of conservatives on fark, invariably starts up quite the toasty forum conversation.

Strange that you see so many conservatives on a site that is essentially a mass listing of man got kicked in the groin stories, and beer or random food item truck overturned stories

Really, though, what's the point of looking for "satire" when this is considered a serious news headline?

Semi-self-link, but Dateline: Hollywood isn't a bad place to get your entertainment industry satire, if you're in the market for that sort of thing.

soyjoy,

I actually kind of like the "Duke Sucks" meme. Most Duke students/graduates I know are well pampered/whiny rich kids. There is clearly the odd man out example, however a lot seem to have coasted through with high GPA's courtesy of grade inflation.

If you are a top 10 school you can't graduate your class with low grades, would look bad, might imply your students couldn't hack it.

also their novel curriculum is pretty humorous, such as this example, from the FAQ:

"Will it be difficult for me to complete the General Education requirements and those for my major and still graduate in four years? (Back to Questions)

No, it will not be difficult... There is no need for you to be concerned that you cannot complete all graduation requirements in eight semesters."

This is a relevant question because you must graduate in 4 years from Duke. The funny part is that they don't offer course credits in the same way that 99% of other universities do. There are no credit hours persay, which means that a student at my lowly state school who must take 130+ hours for an engineering degree, would actually need far fewer classes for the same degree from duke.

130/8 = 16.25 hours a semester, while plenty of duke students can get by with taking only 4 - 5 classes a semester or the equivalent of 12 - 15 credit hours at most other universities... so if there is anything i like about fark its their "duke sucks" meme.

btw, that's not to say that the Duke graduate program doesn't do a lot of fine research, it's mostly the undergraduate program that i have the hate for.

Yeah, Fafblog has its ups and downs, but when its good, its positively breathtaking (my favorite line, from the beginning of an interview with James Dobson: "Hey, Dr. Dobson, how's the family?").

The editorial bias has turned a silly cheap gag site into another PR arm for the Bush administration. It wasn't always this , and they seem to get more LGF-like every day.

Really? Weird... the last few times I've looked inside a Fark political thread I've been struck by how left-leaning it seemed. Not as much as here... but it was maybe 75-25 or 60-40 as opposed to 90-10/95-5 here. Of course it's such a big community you never know who'll show up where. I remember it being more conservative in the past, like three, four years ago. shrug.

Conspiracy theory for the day: Fark's comment threads are turning more proportionally liberal than conservative, so most likely, Drew and the administrators are pushing more Pro-FascistPro-Bush front page headlines to keep the conservatives from running away, as they tend to do in any web forum where they can't bully everyone else.

I remember when Rush Limbaugh was occasionally funny. His parodies of prominant liberals were often on target, instead of the Rove-ordered talking points they are now. No wonder he got hooked on drugs.

Of course these are the kind of people who laughed at Ann Coulter's death threat at a sitting Superme Court justice.
