DIVA 2006The Digital & Video Art Fair just opened in New York (nytimes) some highlights if you don’t live in the New York area, or have a better way to spend $10: Martin Sastre’s BOLIVIA 3: Confederation Next (Barney represents Matthew Barney, see here he is slaying Sastre with a lightsaber) part of his Iberoamerican Trilogy; Vincent Goudreau’s Sub-Paradise – about sugarcane farming in Hawaii (excerpted .mov here); My Favorite – ‘Panoscopic’ images by Luc Courchesne. more inside.

I did mean that link. Sastre's film seems to be somewhat bitter over Barney's success and Sastre's obscurity, and plays it out as some sort of epic postmodern duel between the two.

matthew barney is NOT a hack. pretentious? I won't try to argue against it. I'm a fan, but there's plenty of room for believing he's pretentious. but a hack? not remotely. the man's cinematographic technique is beautiful and various (which is another way of saying he's a virtuoso) and his set and costume design is AT LEAST a cut above your average hack, whether you like the final product or not.

but sastre is REALLY jealous because he's not married to bjork.

either way, I really wish I weren't broke. I desperately want to see this.

just for shmegegge then. I bought a ticket, but they never checked it. Just go to then third floor of the embassy suites and walk around... um... i never said that.

hehe, DIVAS is the name of the degree track I'm on it school, and it loosely connects with this sort of thing. Cool post.
