Jeopardy search goes on-line. I imagine half of MeFiers imagine have Jeopardy wet-dreams. Now the hunt for new contestants is being screened on-line (under Jeopardy news). Not the same as Jeopardy online. Are we all obsessed with Alex Trebek?

I don't make posts often, but the Alex Trebek hair-do made this thread imperative.

I used to dislike Alex Trebek, but when I read the chapter of The Know-It-All where the author interviews him, I gained a newfound respect for him.

Let me apologize for the lame fan-fic links. The first one, reading more closely, goes on to make it clear that her Jeopardy fan-fic writing is a joke, that she is not obsessive. The other only concludes with "Just what does that evilest of
men, Alex Trebek, have in store for our daring young hero." and isn't much about Jeopardy.
I was trying to make this post cooler than it is, just a Jeopardy fan who thinks others would like to take the online pre-test for Jeopardy.

Dear Metafilter Forum,
I never thought I'd be writing a letter like this, but I have to tell you what happened to me at the Jeopardy try-outs. I met a girl named u.n. owen ...

Damn - no love for us Canadians. US residency is not a requirements to enter, but you can't sign up without a ZIP code... hm. Maybe I'll just lie.

dances, totally unrelated to the FPP.... you have the Best. Username. Ever.

That is all.

Ach, I think you do, Trebek. I think you do, indeed!

I entered "00000" for my zip code and put my full address in another entry blank. I got e-mail from them. They know I'm Canadian; it's in their database. There's no indication that you have to be a US resident, so I don't see it as being a problem. They invited me, after all.

What pisses me off, though, is that I've been signed up on Sony's website for years waiting for a Vancouver contestant search. They had one here last fall, and I didn't hear about it until the day after it happened. WTF, Sony?

Only saying his name backwards can destroy him! - AMWKE

Making him say his own name backwards sends him back into the 5th dimension where he belongs.

Mac users can participate too. They say that the test is OS X compatible, although they strongly recommend you use a PC. WTFIUWT? I don't know. But I would advise using *shudder* IE 5.x rather than an IE simulator or somesuch.

It probably means they never tested it on a Mac. So you get to.

Aw, man: I thought this was going to be a link to a search engine that lets you find past jeopardy answers by typing in the questions. :(

I, also, cannot deal with his lack of mustache.

Why, why would you do such a thing, Mr Trebek?

It makes me sad.

Wow, I didn't realize I'd merited a metatalk post. I should read there more often.

Being on "Jeopardy!" was a lot of fun, and I highly encourage anyone that's interested to take the test. I'm trying to get my husband into the tryouts, since he claims to have known the answers to both of the Final Jeopardy questions that I missed.

There was a Canadian contestant on the day after my last show, so that's definitely possible. I don't remember where he said he took the test, though - he might have done it at the studios in L.A.

davejay - you might enjoy the J! Archive.

Like candyland said, it's fun, I'd say that it's the most surreal fun you can have with your clothes on and no intoxicants in your system, I think.

So do it, do it, you'll love it!

Dagnabit! ISP troubles made me late, and it seems the test is given in real time, so no Trebek for me.
