Like a hammer hits a cataloupe!

Molvania banned from Eurovision contest...again. After failing in 2004 with his Elektronik – Supersonik (prev.) ZLAD! tried again with his darker I am the Anti-pope (video) which was rejected because "Satanism has no place at Eurovision." Zlad! responded, speaking backwards through a hooded translator, "In Molvania, this is one of our most loved children’s stories." You may also want to check out Hospital of the Hearts (video), the number one soap in Phaic Tan.

This is a beautiful piece of work, truely the pinnacle of western art.
Unfortunately it's also like a year old d00d. This is this year's bit.

I'm gonna be humming that 'hammer hits a cantalope' line all freaking day tomorrow. Argh!

You people need to stop making fun of serious artists. Caution: first link contains laughably bad grindcore.

Eastern Europeans are so backwards. And poor too. It makes me laugh, but also puke in disgust, at the same time.

Well.. ok.

Although admittedly weaker than "Anti-pope", Lithuania's "We are the winners" is my favourite of the Eurovision 2006 contestants.

Keijo, Lordi is the only reason I am for once going to watch the Eurovision Song Contest. Naturally, I am going to be drunk out of my skull.

It's going to be amazing, if only for entertainment value.

Suomi, Finland perkele...

Youtube / Lithuania. Seriously, this song deserves to win. There would be no more Eurovision contests after that.

Vlad!'s shirtless back = not so much. Nice boots, though.

Molvania is a fascinating place. In fact, when I visited a few years ago I had brought a few little gifts, like cigarettes for the little children and firing arms for the grown-ups. My host family was so grateful, they immediately made me a feast of traditional Spatznah, being raw parsnips and lamb intestine, ground finely to accommodate the average local's haphazard dental situation. I would meet their youngest daughter at midnight under the Stalin statue, where we exchanged oral pleasure for toothbrushes and baseball cards. Not that I didn't have enough toothbrushes already, but she insisted.

Cousin Boris was blind, but that didn't keep him from distilling his own potato vodka at home. It tasted god awful, but at least he had a bath tub.

On Saturdays we went gypsy watching, a popular pastime which basically involves pulling up a few lawn chairs or tree trunks right outside the fence and just drink Boris brand vodka, or Stolichnaya if someone managed to steal some, until a gypsy appeared to beg, at which point we would yell: "Romani kurwa!".

Ah, good times.

I could, of course, tell you that story about how I played the entire national football team at tennis, but that's a different story altogether.

This rocks totally and utterly, more than Lordia, and on a level equal to Dragonforce. I'm hoping for a ZLAD!/ Laibach tour in 2007.

For those who didn't see it, MP3 available here.

Huh. I didn't know that Greg Proops was lithuanian. But I swear I heard him singing that song.
posted by JeremyT at 6:17 AM on April 6, 2006

The song is just too good for Eurovision! that's why they left it out.

I thought that Lithuania entry was a joke too, but no, they're really in. Can't wait to see the final.

It's funny because it almost could be real. One of these days, Eurovision will merge with American Idol and god help us then.

Incidentally, nobody told me that the spell check didn't cover the post title field. Though I prefer cataloupes (like a Loupe-Garou, but instead a cat that transforms into a man) to cantaloupes.
posted by blahblahblah at 12:12 PM on April 6, 2006

I believe that would be a cat that transforms into a wolf - one of the less-studied transformational disorders.
