Tribe wanted. Help needed in tropical island paradise. (better like the Limeys/Poms) via

I dunno, maybe I'm not "green" enough, but when I show up at an island paradise, the last thing I want to do is spend my vacation time doing hard manual labor, which it seems, will be a chief constituent of life on the island.

I don't think the pay is anywhere near what I need.

Seems a bit like a glorified timeshare to me. Am I missing something?

Am I missing something?

You are probably missing the concept that the founders live it up on the island full time, on your money.

The picture-perfect PR web makes me sick.

While the idea of a sustainable lifestyle on an island paradise is sound and many tropical islands *were* sustainable before the advent of western civilisation, the spread of western vermin & disease, and globalisation, I really don't see how that is really possible by flying to an island 1000's of miles from your home for a maximum of 3 weeks and paying hundreds of dollars for the privilege. I would be impressed and surprised if the locals use the funds generated for true sustainability. The way the blurb goes on about beers & hyammocks sounds to me like there's going to be alot of importation. Myeeeaahhh, whatever...

This sounds pretty lame. Hidden village? Pirate's cave? Come on.

This is a brilliant idea. With a sickeningly sweet website. Get suckers to pay you money to come and visit you on your island. Give them manual labor jobs during their vactation. Profit!!!

Yeah, it stoked the fires of my alternative community dreams for about 30 seconds until my brain fully processed the website. And then when I realized it wasnt' a "come live here" thing, but really a vacation spot... I lost all interest.

I'd actually enjoy this if someone else paid for it. It's like summer camp for bored adults.

After 20+ years in my neighborhood, I finally feel comfortable, and really like my neighbors. This is my level of engagement. I don't like humans nearly well enough to "do a tribe" for recreation. Imagine, a supermarket that you cannot escape, neighbors without fences, government in your face, and confinement to a 12 block square area. Even with outrageous landscaping, and a swim pass I wouldn't find this appealing.

This website answers the question, "If I throw enough money at the problem, can I become a unique individualist?"

Meatbomb : "This website answers the question, 'If I throw enough money at the problem, can I become a unique individualist?'"

The answer being "If you have that much money, you'd probably rather join a tribe"?

This is a fantastic idea, and one my friends and I had tossed around in moments of weakness and/or desperation.. Except our version also includes various dirigibles and at least one submarine.

At least now we'll have a blueprint for how [not] to make it work.

Still, it is tantalizing. How much is a flight to fiji these days?

I flew to fiji about two years ago for $1200 from L.A.
