Bush -- Gone Fishing!

When the leader of "The Free World" declares that the best moment in his five years in office was catching a big fish it surely may signal that "his administration may be over." God Bless America.

This post was deleted for the following reason: The highlight of my seven years here is fishing for double posts.

Hadn't realized how desperate the left has become to trash Bush until this article got double posted. Yeesh.

Nonetheless:
"This administration may be over," Lance Tarrance, a chief architect of the Republicans' 1960s and '70s Southern strategy, told a gathering of journalists and political wonks last week. "By and large, if you want to be tough about it, the relevancy of this administration on policy may be over."

What about those on the right?

Angry Conservatives Seen Behind Bush's Drop in Polls.

Bushie, you're doin' a heckuva job!

Midas, it ain't desperation, it's "Ding Dong the Witch Is Maybe-Not-Dead-But-Certainly-Dying" glee...

Was a link to "God Bless America" in Wikipedia really adding anything at all to this post?!

In Laura Bush's biography, she was asked how she feels about the negative polls and sentiments. She said she and the President ignore them, because some of the greatest presidents in the past - Lincoln, FDR - had very low approval ratings during their own presidencies. Taken in context with his "WWIII" quote (previous FPP), one can better glimpse his mindset, and manifest destiny.

I was sorry to see the previous deletion if only because of eriko's excellent "fishing accomplished" crack.

How come - some of you - people don't realise (and let's face it, we don't know the context at all) that rather than this being evidence of idiocy, it is in fact a politically smart answer to offer? Neutral, derailing, folksy and non-combattive. It would be easy to conclude that this person is actually quite intelligent. Reagan might have said the same thing. Even Clinton, given say a very casual kind of interview format, might come up with something of this sort. It is politically smart, particularly when your popularity is in the gutter.

Same goes for when Bush was asked about his mistakes and he said he couldn't think of anything. He would have opened himself up to a potentially worse time of it had he self-criticized.
[and I'm commenting on these just as individual episodes, rather than them being part of an admittedly overall poor performance/poor intelligence/poor policies administration]

I'm not trying to give the guy any great credit for any kind of intentional savvy, but rather, even if this was a zoned out shallow response, it shows that his impulse is to minimize affront/controversy. That is a political skill.

Having said all that, this is still a pathetic post; just that this time it's bedfellows with wikipedia and some (gosh, we didn't know!) negative polling data. ericb, I was surprised to find that you have no blog linked from your profile. I would otherwise certainly have subscribed.

I agree.

No matter what he had said his greatest accomplishment was, it would have pissed off some groups of people. The lefties would have had a field day explaining how his greatest accomplishment led to death or poverty or inequality. Saying that he caught a fish was a pretty good response.

Like liberating Iraq would have been an acceptable response, but not being the truth he didn't this time mislead the nation. Good job George !

What kind of moron fishes for perch? What, are bass too smart for him or something?

The word "fish" doesn't appear in the second link at all. I don't think anybody really believes that the "catching a big fish" thing has hurt him politically, just that it's an ironic bit of truthiness.

Eh, bush is dead and over. We should be spending time figuring out what kinds of policies we want to see supported in the democratic party, and how to achieve those goals rather then gloating.

There are a lot of crappy democrats out there.

Hopefully we'll see a universal healthcare program in this country in the next 4 or five years.

After that, really, what else to we have to worry about?
