Wasn't there some software that would create a color wheel based on whatever color you gave it, so that you could create color schemes that "made sense" from a single color?

www.colorschemer.com will do that for you. I've tried more recent versions and I think I prefer the older builds.

Teal is prolly my fave or 2nd fave colour. I like how it goes with orange.
Sorry, not a US citizen so forgive me if I'm wrong... off the top of my head: teal+orange = Florida Gators and Miami Dolphins?
