Wiccan Symbol on Tombstone of Veteran denied Also linked here: http://www.reviewjournal.com/lvrj_home/2006/Jul-06-Thu-2006/news/8344272.html CNN.com ran an article a few days ago about the widow of a soldier who was killed and she wants a Wiccan symbol on his tombstone. Crucifixes, the Star of David, Buddhists and even atheists are allowed religious symbols on their military. Now the article has been taken down from CNN.com, and searching the site brings no referance at all.

Is that the same as this WaPo story from July 4?

Well, sure. It's not like the guy died fighting for the basic freedoms we Americans are told we're guaranteed, like the freedome of religion.

this post makes my head hurt. Your main link is to a non existant link and the link that is to a story is a cut-and-paste job. Incidently this has been brewing for at least a year, so while it may be an interesting topic the post is just a mite weak.

I for one get sick of seeing all these atheist religious symbols!

What atheist symbol was put on a tombstone?

My military is adorned with IPUs. What's on your military?

That is officially the worst sentence I've ever read on Metafilter.

I didn't know that we allowed crucifixes and stars of David into the US military; I had thought that enlistment was still limited to human beings or at least that inanimate objects were ineligible (especially if they're gay inanimate objects). But I suppose if walking hammers are good enough for an alternate UK, religious symbols ought to be good enough for us.

How do you put a religious symbol on a military, anyhow?

Also, what sort of religious symbol would a Crucifix choose?
