Could you damn a band with any fainter praise?

Could you damn a band with any fainter praise?

Depends on the other three, yeah?

The daytime of the night . . .

That line caused me to wake up the baby and now my wife is pissed at me. Damn those Conchords all to hell!

Would someone please remove these cutleries from my knees.

I'm going to get kicked out of the bedroom.

As I recall the number 3 band is a Flight of the Conchords tribute band. Isn't it?

They used to call themselves "New Zealand's fourth most popular guitar-based digi-bongo acapella-rap-funk-comedy folk duo". But, yeah, it all depends on the other 3.

Full disclosure: I am the Conchords' webmaster.

Never heard the music before, but I dig Jemaine Clement's movie Tongan Ninja (said phrase is apparently the Kiwi equivalent of North America's "Jewish Cowboy").

My co-worker and his wife have been raving about these guys for months and finally sat me down to watch the HBO special a couple of weeks ago. It's fucking brilliant; "Issues" had me laughing so hard I could barely stay upright.

There's people on the street getting diseases from monkeys...Yeah, that's what I said they're getting diseases from monkeys. Why is this happenin' please who's been touchin' these monkeys? Leave this poor sick monkeys alone they're sick they got problems enough as it is.

God, thanks for this post. I needed a good laugh.

It's awkwardness set to music. Quirky and funny and brilliant. That was good, Mister N. Terminated; thank you for the post.

It's like Simon and Garfunkel meets Beck's "Debra". ("I met you/At JC Penny/I think your nametag/Said 'Jenny'")

(And right, I was talkin' about the first link.)

That gangsta battle's got its moments, too. Rap parodies are always hit and miss (there's only so many ways to spoof the genre, that's all). But the Flights do nicely with the "Hip-hoppapotamus"'s second verse: "Where did you get that proposterous hypothesis; did Steve tell you that?" Heh.

Albi the Racist Dragon : good name for a sockpuppet.

Sweet. I was at the taping of their HBO special last year. I tried telling people about them afterwards, but when I tried to explain it, people just looked at me blankly. I probably shouldn't have mentioned that one of them is the Outback Steakhouse spokesman. Live and learn, I guess.

It is, perhaps, entirely unworth mentioning that one half of them are otherwise known as Figwit.

I've seen the conchords on stage in New Zealand quite a few times at comedy events. They are always great. I had no idea they were all massive famous now.

I count Business Time as one of the funniest things ever. Thanks for the other links!

Wow. Like sycophant I try to catch these guys whenever they are playing in Auckland. They seem to be hitting the big time finally. They deserve the props.

Crazily enough my sister went to SXSW with Jemaine and Brett to produce a [moc/doc]umentary on their visit. Should be on NZ TV in the near future.

They had a series a few months ago on Radio 4, 'Flight of the Conchords' that was HIL arious. Unfortunately apart from a small clip the programs aren't available anymore on the BBC website.

The Figwit site links to a downloadable copy of their HBO One Night Stand.

They also did the Phones 4 U commercial in the UK in '04 (link on the website above) which had them driving around in a combi singing a ridiculously catchy song. They're awesome.
