The Religious Canadian Politician

It isn't only in the USA. Canada also has a religious-right, social-, fiscal- ,liberty-conservative politician. "Mayes describes as evil recent press reports about her husband. And she's calling on members of the Christian community to pray for her husband. " [text+video]

Yes, I live in a very conservative area of British Columbia.

And, yes, it scares me a little.

From my del.icio.us page:

Somena Media: Indie Aboriginal Media Outlet: Ezra's Howlin' Spider Monkeys Playing Inspector Clouseau.... Hilarity ensues..
Albertan conservatives are every bit as stupid and crazy as American Republicans.

Maybe you should sacrifice him to Ogopogo in a midnight ritual...

Just one?

By the way, we have absolutly no idea why her husband is being attacked. Without that context, this post is rather nonsensical.

Canada has many conservative politicians. We also have many politicians who are people of faith (even... gasp! Christians). Those two categories may overlap, but are not identical (even in my home province of Alberta).

I'm not sure what either of them really has to do with a loony wife and her petty feud with a small town newspaper.

love the refooorm tag, though

In a related story, I grew up in this dingus' riding.

Moral of the story: Politicians named after one of the Pac-Man ghosts are messed up, man.

In other news, we also live in regular non-igloo houses, and I'm aboot to put on some shorts and go outside.

What's with all the Fake-France posts lately?

Fake-France, how do you mean?

I like Fake-France posts. They have a certain je ne sais quoi.

TetrisKid: What's with all the Fake-France posts lately?

Grow the fuck up. I'm so fucking sick of assholes calling Canada "France-Lite", the fifty first state and whatever else you can think of. It's a country I spend a hell of a lot of time in and have a great passion for. Stupid fucking comments like yours prove once again that dickheads from the "heartland" have no sense of a larger world outside of their own.

So in summary... fuck off and die, eh?

jasenlee, don't be so hard on the kid. It's not easy, growing up profoundly—some might even say pathologically—oblivious of the world at large. It may appear willful, even obsessive, to us, but it's a condition, a sickness.

You wouldn't go up to a quadriplegic in a wheelchair and tell him to stop fucking drooling on himself, would you? People like TetrisKid are like that. Some of them even do drool on themselves. But it's not their fault, and you shouldn't be hostile towards them. They don't deserve our anger. They deserve our pity.

79% less crazy, but we have better beer down here.

FYI: Quebec has 2 E's and is pronounced more like Ké-bec than Cue-bec.

jasenlee canada is nothing more than a parasite feeding off of the tiniest pimple to be found on the unwashed carcass of the US. It adds nothing, but only barley detracts from the intrinsic value of humanity. Oups I stood on some lichen, don't think it noticed though which is nice eh?

Yah, I suppose it pretty much sucks as a post. Sorry. Delete away, admin!

Most of our conservative politicians have little in the way of values except for a persistent desire to suck the US c*ck. Honestly, I don't think our Prime Minister or anyone in his cabinet dares to take a sh*t without first asking Washington if it's OK to do so.

Woooow. Do they also have a class of folks who make it their business to say "scaaaaarrrreeeeee" every time their Religious Right opens its fool mouth?
posted by bovious at 8:41 PM on August 12, 2006

I can't believe that they're even attacking the press like ours are down here. It's like ours are contagious or something--or happily exporting their press releases and talking points and consultants, more likely.

Jasonlee - it's called "Canadian Baiting", and it's a bit of a sport in some circles. Our over-defensiveness about "not being American" is exactly the point of the joke. Best let it slide.
