This is just a link to a movie in the pop's list of youtube. There is no commentary or reason to post it here. Is this what metafilter is about?

Now and then I wonder if I'm not becoming cynical when I consider the snarky comments I've posted at times about some FPPs. I gravitate towards maudlin introspection..

"Am I here too much?"
"Are my expectations too high?"
"Would it just have been better to have not typed anything and moved along?"

But then I stumble across infantile material like this and it revitalises my sagging composure. It begs for a slapdown and a warning so that others don't inadvertently waste their time on shabby guff.

OK, I smiled for maybe 2.7 secs but really, this is crap with capital C. runkelfinker, you definitely contribute some good FPPs but this is not one of those.

I'm with peacay. Not. Bad.
But i didn't smile for very long indeed let alone laugh.

Here's my contribution to one-link-youtube-pseudo-documentaries:

I couldn't agree more that this unfortunate trend towards one-link You Tube posts of questionable entertainment value is regrettable.

Youtube is now in the position that blogs were a few years back. Everyone thinks they have something entertaining to say but most people just have something to say. It'll pass.

Are there any other blogs that track the best of YouTube?

Flag it and move on. Or take it to Meta. But be aware that no one cares that you don't like YouTube. I like these videos.

it's way too long and isn't that funny or good, despite the appearances of Ted Leo and Devendra. Like i read somewhere else, it is too painfully self aware and i dunno Tapes N Tapes, just not funny! Ben Stiller's cheesy agent guy from the Ben Stiller show is along these lines and way funnier! Also indie asshole clerks with Aziz too is much funnier

I hate this video. I hate Metafilter. I hate EVERYTHING. Why isn't anything good enough? I want videos to be funnier. And shorter. I want them to be VALID. And not just any generic kind of valid, but VERY valid. This video feels more like "arbitrarily valid." I was looking at the Validity Rating and it's like a ZERO.

Why did you post and INVALID video? Cats flushing TOILETS is valid. I do NOT LIKE movies about people named "Tickle." TICKLE MY ASS! I want this movie GONE! I want it off the front page. The front page is for GOOD things! Flag this! Let's take this outside! This is fucking METAFILTER, man, it's like the fucking BENTLEY of the Internet Community Blogs, you do NOT post shit like this and expect to get E-PROPS from me.

* * *

Metafilter = Pitchfork. We don't just dish out good ratings for any damn act that comes along. I'd say it sounds a bit derivative of the Pixies.

Before Metafilter, they had these things called bookmarks. I'd find a site I liked, and go back there to see what was new.

In response to posts such as these, I wonder if Matt should just add offsite RSS feeds to the front page as a "Duh, we already know, idiot." sort of thing. Perhaps he could do this on the "Post" page.

Whatever the case, it's time to start telling people to GYOFRSSA. Get your own fantastic RSS aggregator.

300 YouTube videos have been uploaded in the last 30 minutes. Let's be conservative and assume that it's busy right now, and usually only 150 are uploaded every 30 minutes. That's 7,200 new videos a day.

Let's say each video is 1 minute long. That's 120 hours of video uploaded a day.

You're saying that there's no reason to filter YouTube, that if it's linked once, then we can just bookmark YouTube and go back there daily to see what's new (all 7,200 videos)? Or just use an RSS feeder to see what's new? And that there's no need for filtration; after all, anyone can watch 120 hours of video in a 24 hour period, as long as they have the power of a really good RSS reader. Every video on YouTube is a "duh, we already know, idiot" video, because our scrupuluous pre-Metafilter "check what's new" superpowers have enabled us to have already seen anything which might be linked?

That must be some really primo LSD.
