I've never understood why people keep ferrets as pets. They're nasty little creatures, and they stink.

I used to have a ferret, and the idea of taking my ferret for a walk in its little beret is almost enough to make me want to get another. Perhaps I would teach it to smoke too.

Thanks for this post. It made my morning. My GOD those creatures are adorable in little sweaters.
I don't find ferrets nasty. A bit smelly, but super cute. My best friend has several. They are playful and mischievous and not at all bitey.

I'm imagining the poor things thrashing wildly trying to free themselves from "Ferret Princess Hat" or "Ferret Bowtie" while their owners baby-talk to them obliviously...
Unclothed ferrets are cool though, their reputation for nastiness is undeserved.

My wee little ferrets are scampering around as I type. Not nasty at all. It's amazing how much they're maligned reputation wise. As for clothing - just say no - please. They don't deserve that type of injustice.

Adorable! And ferrets are okay pets, but they do stink, more so if you don't get them descented. Also, not recommended for hoarders, as ferrets can contribute to squalor given half a chance.

Ferrets seems to be a love-em or hate-em kind of pet. Even de-scented they do produce more odor than your average house cat, but probably no more than some types of hound dog.
The best way to keep ferrets is to have more than one. They are social, and having buddies can keep them stimulated when you aren't around. Also, watching ferrets play fight is extraordinarily entertaining.
I am still waiting on the video, but a friend of mines ferrets have discovered diving. Specifically when he bathes them, they race to the top of the toilet and leap into the bathtub. Over and over again. This activity is said to produce uncontrollable laughter in anyone who witnesses it.

Also, the smell of a ferret is noticeable by a large number of people, but it's "nastiness" is actually based on the person's own sense of smell. For example, my fiance barely smells our two ferrets and the small amount she does, she doesn't think they smell bad.
I, on the other hand, definitely smell them and I think they smell bad. Oddly enough, it's one of those smells that you can get used to (unlike the smell of burning rubber, etc).
My fiance also likes the smell of coffee, like most people, but coffee-smell is so bad to me it makes me nauseous.

More ferret clothes from the Ferret Store and Marshall Farms. Lots of repetition, because most of it is made by Marshall's. It's intensely depressing, though, to see people treat their pets like dolls to dress up.
Incidentally, neutered ferrets really, really don't usually stink if you don't give them baths. Even if they've not been descented - they only poof when they're scared or angry. Just keep their bedding and litter boxes and cage surfaces all clean, and bathe only when there's been messy mayhem.

My cousin had a ferret once. I noticed in his little cage he had a cloth bag suspended from the cage ceiling that he slept in. That gave me the idea that humans should use the same thing, ya know, to save space. We should all be sleeping in a bag hanging from the ceiling.
Other than that, I'm with Den Beste on this one. Nasty fucking vermin.
