Thumbs up, sir.

Get Well Roger Flickr Group. Roger Ebert, still recovering from an arterial burst following surgery to remove cancer near his jaw, could use a little love. Show some, and be a gigantic nerd, by taking a picture of yourself giving a "thumbs up" and uploading it to this Flickr Group. They'll be sending the whole spiel to the good sir himself after they have enough pictures uploaded. Previously.

What if, instead, you had a big thumbs-up painted on your clean-shaven labia?

I hope he gets well and all, but c'mon...

Hopefully, this will make him feel better, but I can't help wondering whether it might make him feel worse.

How about we all chip in and send him the Garfield Movie on DVD? That's bound to cheer the guy up.

We have an enormous sculpture of Garfield delivered onto his lawn, bearing the engraving: "In honor of ROGER EBERT, who, with great CATTITUDE, eats the LASAGNA of MOVIEDOM while defeating the SPIDERS and MONDAYS of CANCER and SURGERY-RELATED COMPLICATIONS."

come on, the man has cancer, and for all his mistakes he's been a consistent voice for decades against the dumbing down of the American film industry. he's far from my favorite critic, but really, Ebert's one of the (few) good ones.

and, he wrote Beyond the Valley of the Dolls. thumbs up to that!

In addition to matteo's comments, I'll add he's more accessable to his fans than a critic of his stature has any need to be. I've had friends who had long email conversations with him about particular films or filmmaking and he's always been professional, polite and opinionated -- Exactly what I want in a critic.

Ebert is the original Pitchforkmedia.

Get well soon Roger.

They could increase their numbers if they merged with the Doing the Lindy group...

This is all I have ever seen of Ebert. I like it very much. I wish him good luck in his recovery.

When I was in Salt Lake during the Sundance festival a couple of years ago, I rode in an elavator with Roger Ebert.

He was wearing a really ugly jacket.
