Mic In Track

By searching for the phrase "mic in track" in your favorite p2p file sharing program, you can find audio tracks people recorded on their own computers and probably never intended for public broadcast. Lots of them are empty or otherwise pretty dull, but sometimes you can find some really interesting stuff. Metafilter's starkeffect turns the cool ones into even cooler music.

(For those looking at the starkeffect tracks, I highly recommend the hit Bunny rabbits, Satan, cheese, and milk. Thanks MeFi CD Swap!)

Thanks guys.. btw, the very first mit's I put up, way down at the end of the page (like "Where The Plum Pudding Goes" and especially "MIB") are still some of my favorite finds.

Even cooler music indeed. Did I mentioned that I knew him before he was famous? Before his FPP and all?

I've been a fan of these for a while now, and am tickled that starkeffect is on here. Great work - I'm particularly fond of "I Miss You."

Oh - and isn't starkeffect a member of Beatallica as well?

I'm more of a supporter than a member; I first put them on the web and was their Webmaster (of Puppets) until I recently moved to California. Here's a Wikipedia link and an mp3 of me giving the backstory.

Incidentally, Beatallica is opening for MiniKISS in Milwaukee tomorrow night. Yes, really.

Cool, I've had "Stupidly Happy" on my playlist for so long I can't remember where I got it from. Nice track. Thanks, starkeffect. Looking forward to checking these out when I get home from work.

Instant classic.

Don't forget to check out starkeffect's MeFi Music posts. (At the very least, you can preview some of the tracks that way.)

P.S. You should throw a couple of sample tracks like "Bunnyrabbits" up on Last.fm.

big up to the starkeffect.
If you'd indulge us,
what is your kit N' kaboodle?
All softs? or is there some hardware in the mix so to speak?

good things should never go to satan.

I put Think of Me as the first track on a mix CD for my sweetie way back when I was still just hopelessly crushed out on her. Now, I'm sure this song isn't the only reason she ended up dating me, but it can't have hurt. Thanks, starkeffect!

hey boo - i used to sing this song in grade school choir. it was a vocal warm-up. you start by singing the phrase "i want to eat eight apples and bananas" and then repeat it 5 times, replacing all the vowels with just one, in long form (ay ee i oh, oo). for whatever that's worth.

'tis charming to hear a baby squeak out the long "ee's".

All softs? or is there some hardware in the mix so to speak?

Just about everything in the mic-in-track remixes was done using FruityLoops (FL Studio) on my old 750 Mhz desktop PC. I used GoldWave to make the samples from the original mp3 files, but all the sequencing, instrumentation, effects, etc. was done in FL. No external hardware at all.

Third vote for "Think Of Me", it's been in heavy rotation chez j&w for a while now.

Wow. starkeffect single-handedly saves earth from destruction. Nicely done!

Hey, starkeffect, nice work! Lord knows there's been plenty of found-sound spoken-word snippets tossed on top of beats over the years, the great majority of them instantly forgettable. But these pieces of yours stand out for their sense of timing, development, humor and just general artistry. Really well done. Faves so far are Think Of Me (funny in its excruciating embarrasing-ness), and I Miss You (I'm a sucker for beats in 7). Oh, and Bunny Rabbits is an instant classic. I'm your fan.

I've got an mp3 of the "Bunny Rabbits" one somewhere, have had it for a while now. I'd imagine I got it from here, so it must have been posted before.

Ah, yes, here it is.

I would be remiss if I did not at this point mention also the vocal sampling (though archival- rather than contemporary/candid-centric) works of our Durhey.

"Eeples and Beeneenees" has made my day so many times it's not funny anymore. Thanks, starckeffect.

While these are cool in the "found art" sense, they've got some dope beat to boot! Well done, stark.

Man, I hadn't listened to eeples and beneenees in years. I distinctly remember downloading it and a few dozen other micintracks via the fastTrack network after hearing about the phenomenon.

Another favorite of mine was searching for people's word documents, and laughing at their terribly done homework assignments.
