Well, I'm not going to start blinding them, if that's what you're getting at.

I think it stands well alone, and that other people will share useful links in the thread.

also, you JUST ASKED about this on AskMeFi

Via.

Man, I've wanted to do that for a long time.

I also posted a query in AskMefi. It asks if maybe schizophrenia protects against blindness.
posted by srs at 8:35 AM on November 3, 2006

I'm sorry. Is there a problem posting in both AskMefi and MeFi? One was a link. The other one was a question about that link.

This goes a long way to explaining the near-zero incidence rate of schizophrenia in Three Stooges episodes, in that Moe was all along just issuing regular eyepoke-based therapy to his two companions, despite their many childish protestations.

Do any blind people have AIDS? I was wondering about that too. There could be a connection.

I'm not seeing anything on the page you linked to other than the abstract and links to the author's homepages.

I think it stands well alone

It's a three line abstract. How is that 'the best of the web'?

The problem is your one-link post has three sentences worth of information. It leaves a bit to be desired.

Well it would be super if you got the full text up somehow, or something with a little more meat, or at least an explanation of what exactly is going on here... interesting topic, but I must recommend this post for deletion.

Does anyone hear purring? I hear purring, or mewing. Like a cat.

It seems to be coming from above me...

The full text is available by clicking on the PDF (819.5Kb) link at the top-right. It's not gripping stuff, to be honest.

Man, mefi is really in a slump lately... and ask.mefi isn't faring too much better with questions that could be answered with .5 seconds of Googling.

Well... A BIG SHOT IN THE DARK HERE.... they do prescribe medical marijuana to people with glaucoma, and NMDA dynamics might be involved

Thanks to a tragic img mix-up, Pastabagel ends up covered in elephant urine.

I did not know that the full text was available for free, or I definitely would have linked to that. I apologize.

I'm still not seeing it. Perhaps I'm not schizophrenic enough...

Marijuana causes schizophrenia! It's science! (How quickly we forget.)

This really does not stand alone as a post.

There is important information. It invites a multitude of questions and answers. It intends to open minds and get them to think. Yes, I would say this is "the best of web."

Well, since blindness is usually caused by masturbation this is hardly surprising.

*Brrrring!*

Hello?

Hi srs, it's me, the internet.

Hey internet! How are you?

I'm OK. Listen, please stop talking about me, will you?

What do you mean?

I'm all about naked chicks and videos of shrimp on treadmills and stuff like that. Not 3-line abstracts from second-line medical journals.Just stop, OK?

Not so fast, srs: from PubMed (Google result #1): The Psychotheraphy of a Blind Schizophrenic Child. The conditions can (or rather, do, as in this instance) exist; it's still too new a field of research for any snap judgements to be made.

OmieWise writes "Marijuana causes schizophrenia! It's science! (How quickly we forget.)"

I think you need to study harder, OmieWise. Everyone knows it's SCIENCE! Big difference.
