It's come to this now? I'm so very sad.

Not even the sight of giggling babies was enough to cheer me up after realizing that I was being directed to giggling babies.

Sure they're cute now, but one day the become toddlers, and then you have to beat them back with a stick lest they gang up and take you out.

We should view these videos as training aids. Learn their weaknesses now. Before it's too late.

Was it? Well, it was the first time I'd seen it.

I'm a little biased but I think this video of my cousin's baby boy is adorable.

Although I personally think almost as funny is my dad on the left, who repeatedly poses because he believes I am taking a photo, when instead he's being videotaped.

delmoi, you've changed

Hey, you're right! There are NO misspellings in his post!

Gosh, babies are cute.

(ain't gonna look at no babies on YouTube, though...)

Pollomacho : Which side of the stick is the back?

Duh, the one on the opposite side from the front. The good thing is, as tenacious as they are, toddlers are susceptible to either, so if you get it wrong, you still have a good chance of surviving.

You can thank me when we have finally won and put this long war behind us.

Little Rush, where did you go so wrong? Adolph, you were such a cute little bambino. Slobodan, despite your jolly antics in the crib, you will die awaiting your trial as a war criminal.

Aww. Look at the little duffer.
Such an potential for heartless evil.
It all begins (dreamily) in the home.

flapjax @ midnite : Hey, you're right! There are NO misspellings in his post!

And that is where you are terribly wrong. He did have a misspelling; his name. 'delmoi', I have it on good authority that properly spelled it's 'moiled'. As in:

moil (moil)
intr.v. moiled, moil·ing, moils

1. To toil; slave.
2. To churn about continuously.

And now you know the awful truth.

quin, not sure you have the right definition of moiled: "If you have any difficulty arranging circumcision on the NHS, the local Jewish circumciser, (môhel - pronounced 'moil') will often oblige you..." Could this have happened to delmoi...?!?

Well I just discovered the best way to enjoy cute babies, which is on the internet, because some of us mid-twenties women get a wee bit broody when they're around in person, which causes oh so much cognitive dissonance... no! I don't want one, you evil ovaries! So thanks, delmoi.

tellurian : Sure, there are some cute and funny babies.

[offtopic]

Your 'cute' link reminded me of a brilliant idea I had. And by 'brilliant' I mean political and mean spirited.

I want to take the sound of a baby crying, the one noise agreed upon by the experts to be totally irritating, and play it from my killer/ bumpin' car speakers (which I will build some day, I swear) whenever I see anti-abortionists lining the roads in my town with their children.

I'm guessing it would take less than a minute of that shit to drive them off.

[disclaimer: I live in a shitty cold/ hot/ muggy state. Forcing your young ones to stand beside you for political gains is, in my mind, tantamount to being an unfit parent.]

Deathalicious: I think you're right, better than the fpp's videos, imo. I think it's interesting how funny the stuff making these kids laugh actually is. That's why it's fun to watch for us. They're developing in those moments.

I just can't believe this obcene and offensive material is allowed on the net. Disgusting.

As much as I'm in favor of annoying militant anti-abortion crusaders, I have to warn you that your idea might not work, that is, on the ones with children. Crying babies (on planes, for example) drove me stark staring mad for years, until I had a baby of my own. My child is 6 now, the baby years are behind us, but to this day the sound of a baby crying, well, it just doesn't bother me anywhere near as much as before. I dunno, a parent just gets used to the sound, somehow, it becomes less grating. That's been my personal experience, anyway. So you might still do better with blasting some Marilyn Manson, or whatever.

You are probably right, but from what I've read it's the sound of other peoples babies crying that seems to mess with ones head. Something about not being able to comfort them.

It may or may not be pertinent that I think the military/ experts played the sound in reverse to get the full effect. I have no idea if that would change the dynamic, but I can see it irritating the hell out of me. [of course, I say this being childless, so take with a big grain of salt]

That's been my personal experience, anyway. So you might still do better with blasting some Marilyn Manson, or whatever.

Yep, I already have a good M.Manson track on hand. I can be honest and say that much of his music is crap, but my heavens, he really does have the ability to piss righteous people off.

Delmoi, you are spreading baby propaganda. You are like the Fox News of babies.

I thought I'd wait to see what people were saying about the links before clicking them. Assuming that they were not really going to be links to cute babies on youtube, but instead some kind of po-mo ironic statement with a twist in its tail.

At least I have learned the definition for moil, which could come in useful.
posted by asok at 1:46 AM on November 22, 2006

Apparently there are strange things done in the midnight sun by the men who moil for gold. {insert your own way of linking this to the original baby-nonsense: all I got is a moil ref}

I actually liked the first baby laughing link, and I'm not really a fan of babies. Here's some counterpropaganda.

Here's some counterpropaganda.

there's a reason some shopping carts have a basket at the front that folds out and has two spots covered by plastic slats

*folds basket out, puts slats down, drops kid into basket, inserting legs through slots, says "scream all you want, but you're staying there"*

after a few times of that, toddlers become pretty well behaved in the grocery store

Now I'm torn, because while I loved Bibek for some reason (I think it was the way he'd sometimes stop laughing, then resume on his own, as if he'd just realized another layer to the joke) but I think the counterpropaganda is so damn wonderful as well.
posted by piratebowling at 6:28 AM on November 22, 2006

One day those babies will grow up to join metafilter, and with earnest innocent smiles they'll post links to their favorite bands which the rest of us will mock mercilessly.

Also, I'd laike to state for the record that it is very creepy to watch the home movies of people you don't know.

For those unable to tell the difference between babies and kittens: Babies, unlike kittens, are unlikely to slowly but inexorably bounce up from the bottom of the bed towards your head and then chew on your nose. Alternately, kittens, unlike babies, are unlikely to kill you in your home and need to be exterminated with a scalpel.

Believe me. I tried. Oh, how I tried. But, no, babies simply won't make the effort.

you did nail their feet to a cement slab first, didn't you? ... then drop the slab from whatever height you like

it works most of the time ...
