"Penguins wobble" - a MeFi update (earlier thread here) For those who wondered, Penguins do not topple over backwards over when helicopters pass overhead. A small team of British researchers spent $36,000 and five weeks finding this out. Another study is planned soon with fixed-wing aircraft.

Previous theory: Penguins fall over backwards while watching helicopters pass overhead.

Revised theory: Replace "fall over backwards" with "get quiet for a moment."

In other penguin news, a dazed and confused baby penguin was picked up for loitering near a McDonald's in Melbourne, Australia ... and jailed.
