Eejanaika the world's tallest, fastest [video] and longest 4th Dimension roller coaster. Google video. Stats.

Whe it comes to roller coasters (or as they're generally referred to here, jet coasters) Japan definitely kicks ass.

Oh expletive that!

I went on X, its predecessor/prototype at Six Flags Magic Mountain and was so disoriented that it's only now, having viewed that video, I realise how the seats move relative to the track. Good stuff.

So, if you ride it, are your organs mysteriously reversed? If you wrote left-handed, are you now right-handed ... but for some reason, write in mirror script?

It looks like they designed it so that when you toss your cookies non of it falls in the cart.

Can I get it installed inside a giant geodesic video dome, with customized with onboard stereoscopic head up display headsets, THX sound and a laughing gas feed? Can we run it backwards?

How much? Do they deliver? Can I pay with my soul?

Fourth dimension? At least flight simulator manufacturers don't resort to such bullshit... there, that would be called "four degrees of freedom" (4DOF).

Amazing... I wish I could try it! This video gives you a pretty good view of the rotations it does.

Christ. That looks terrifically terrifying.

Interesting. Eejanaika refers to a millenarial incidence preceding the Meiji era and translates like this.

I could feel my throat slide into the pit of my stomach (or my stomach rise to the back of my throat) after watching that. Yikes!

It would probably be one of these things im scared of but cant keep myself from going on them. Women fall in that category too :D

More like the barf dimension though but thx for sharing that NS, it was fun.

This makes me very, very sad that my post-retirement roller coaster tour is still probably...mmm...20 years away.

*single tear*

Yes, and when you plug the MP3 player or cellphone you were carrying into a charger they'll fry because their polarity's been reversed.

Well, of course it's 4th dimensional.

i was far too hungover to watch more than 1 minute of that.

Well, time to resort to the one trick that saves my aging inner ear - a travel tube of Dramamine...

My sentiments exactly.

Next stop, Japan. Seriously. I would give a testicle to have unlimited rides on that thing.

What if the fundies know that the Rapture isn't going to be a nice little ho-hum escalator to Happy Ever After, but something like a 4D jet coaster ripping souls through multi-g Jesus-bound widening gyres? Eh? Eh?

Shit starts to make a little more sense, that's what.

In the 4th Dimension, your vomit vomits you.

You know how in 1984 they break Winston Smith by threatening to strap a rat cage onto his face? Halfway through that video I was screaming "Do it to Julia! Not me! Do it to her!"

Thanks for the nightmare fuel, nickyskye.

Hmm, I wonder what it would be like to ride one of these blindfolded. Would it me more terrifying/ exhilarating or less so?

- Marty, you're just not thinking 4th-dimensionally!
- Right, I get that a lot.

Um...yes. Great question. Well considering you would have no fixed visual landmarks to orient you, an experience like that could well kick you right into the 5th dimension.

But what if you were blindfolded and tripping on acid?

Whoa.
posted by Skygazer at 11:59 AM on January 13, 2007

Well considering you would have no fixed visual landmarks to orient you,

Exactly my thought. A big part of the roller coaster experience for me is the anticipation as you *click*click*click* up the first ramp. Seeing how much higher you are getting with every second and then watching the cars in front of you disappear over the top of the hill... before the ride has really even done anything, it's got you all wound up. Losing those visual cues could really reduce the terror factor, but being whipped around without any idea which direction you might go next might be enough to sublimate it.

Another question; as motion sickness tends to come from dissonance between what your eye is seeing and what your body is feeling, I wonder if riding blindfolded would stop the urge to be sick on getting off of a monster like this.

[These are the kinds of things that keep me awake at night. Wondering.]

I think we have enough here for a test. Quick any Mefites in Japan? We need you to ride this three times. 1.) normal. 2.) blindfolded. 3.) blindfolded and hallucinating. We are going to need you to report back here with your feelings as soon as possible.

Damnit man, it's for Science!

Yes, and include precise vomit-trajectory data. We want to know exactly what happens to your vomit!

Never ever ever ever ever ever ever.

When my kids are old enough to go on that, I will be so glad they're twins, and don't need me to fill the second seat.

1.) normal. 2.) blindfolded. 3.) blindfolded and hallucinating.

C'mon, we must add: 4.) hallucinating. If you're blindfolded, the track can't turn into a dragon.

I hate that there are no roller coasters in Portland.

knave, thanks for the additional link. That video really shows the rotations.

Just thought I'd add this naughty tidbit at the tail end of the thread.

From Flickr, ride of your life.

Rotating while in freefall. If I wanted to do that I'd jump off a fucking building, and I'm more likely to do that than to ride this engineering monstrosity.

I get the jibblies just think about the possibility that other people are thinking about it.

Holy moly. Let me on!

Unfortunately, the seating arrangement looks like Six Flags New England's "Mind Eraser," which should have been terrific fun but was poorly designed. My head repeatedly hit the protective bumpers during the ride and the headache lasted the rest of the day. Never again.
