Running From [The] Camera

Running From Camera The rules are simple: I put the self-timer on 2 seconds, push the button and try to get as far from the camera as I can. [via]

Hahahaha. Ok. Initial reaction is "What the fuck?"

But I think it's cute. ::adds to bookmarks::
It looks like someone is hunting him down or something. Nice post!

I'll run away from this link now :)

Great idea. It runs a little thin after the first half dozen or so, but still, hey, creative. Thumbs up.

My first reaction is "What the fuck?"

my second "Uh?"

my third "What the fuck?"

Kudos for the idea. A flickr group of this might keep interest up for ... a week.

One day, as he's running away from it, someone is going to steal his camera.
posted by IronLizard at 10:29 PM on January 14, 2007

Pretty neat, especially catching them mid-step in the air.

With all that running, I was hoping that we'd see some of them getting progressively farther from the camera over time.
posted by Extopalopaketle at 10:37 PM on January 14, 2007

Yeah. Oughta have one with a guy much closer to the camera ready to grab it and run in the opposite direction. . .

If he ever robs a bank, and the video security captures a pic of him fleeing the scene, this blog may come back to haunt him as the police match the security camera footage with his running away pictures.

haha. look at that fatty run!

Nicely composed photos, well executed concept. I wonder if he gets into trouble occasionally for carefully placing a device in a public spot, fiddling with it, and then running like hell away from it while it beeps...

IronLizard: Some of the captions on his site and on flickr state that he has someone guarding the camera, which is a sound idea.

Of course it is, what else would it be?

Looks like every single episode of "24", except Jack's been at the buffet a bit too long.

I see. I thought he used the timer from necessity. I suppose it's not as gimmicky if this guard person was to take the photo. Still interesting.

God, you people are so serious. I'm laughing out loud here; it's hilarious!

I was just thinking that he could stand to lose a little weight so it's good that he's getting his exercise. Look at that fatty run indeed!

He should do one on how far he can fall in two seconds.
posted by pracowity at 12:06 AM on January 15, 2007

Yeesh. If I'd known calling it hilarious would bring out more moronic fatty jokes, I'd have stayed out of the thread. Good night, assholes.

Hmm. I like it. Especially the one on the bus with the lime green vinyl seats.

(sorry, that 'assholes' was pretty scattershot. Ignore it if you didn't make fatty jokes, thanks.)
posted by mediareport at 12:33 AM on January 15, 2007

it would be nice if he was skinnier and skinnier and further and further away from the camera with each picture as he gets more exercise and gets faster at running away from the camera.

"it would be nice if he was skinnier and skinnier and further and further away from the camera with each picture as he gets more exercise and gets faster at running away from the camera."
Succinctly put.

Pointless, but honest about its pointlessness which makes it kind of fun.

I'm pretty sure it's the terrible choice in jeans, and blouson jackets that's making him look fat. In a majority of the shots he looks like a traveling jumble sale. Looking at the pic from his own studio and the one from the art shop, he seems to be in good shape. I fear, like a Mexican wrestler, we may never get to see his face or indeed anything other than his back.

This would make a great HomestarRunner toon.

In this episode, StrongBad gets everyone to run from the camera and sells the pictures on eBay.

He earns a total of 16 cents.

Running Backwards From Camera

I can see the bloopers from this episode making prime time.

How about:

Set the timer to 2 sec,

Throw camera high in the air.

What, why not?

I think this is wonderful silliness. He works in a nice bit of interesting variation, like running into a street, the run track, almost getting away behind the pipes.

There should be one picture that he's not in, where he explains that he ran the opposite way.

He should try different means of locomotion to escape the camera: scooter, Segway, escalator, skateboard, ice skates, toboggan, diving board, trebuchet, the transporter from Star Trek...
posted by Lord Kinbote at 8:23 AM on January 15, 2007

What kind of tripod or other miracle "hold the camera seemingly in midair" device is using?

I'm thinking that it was a human and not the self timer.

Ah, I'm glad he has someone guarding the camera. My worry would be this: Imagine a man putting a device on the ground, in a public place, pushing the button and then running away.... I was almost afraid that at the end of the series we'd see the guy bullet-riddled and mobbed by security forces.

Beyond just 'hope I don't get taken in as an enemy combatant', I think this is probably even more hilarious in person. When people do something this committedly weird in public, people tend to act... oddly. Wonder if he ever ran into somebody on accident.

Great idea, pleasing, made me laugh.

Then, made me wish he was a photographer who had a clue about making an interesting photograph. Imagine if they were also good photographs. THAT would be friggin' brilliant.

There is one picture where you don't see him at all, and I thought to myself "Yay! He got away!"

R. Mutt: Excuse me? Did you look at the images? Yes, the idea is brilliant, but his photography has no sense of composition, lighting or color. He is a clueless photographer. They would be far better if he was an artist who was also a skilled photographer.
posted by johngumbo at 5:51 PM on January 21, 2007

Ah, but maybe he's so skillful that he's done that on purpose to make them look like untalented snapshots OOH ART.
