How the world really shapes up. "Rather than defining each country by size, these computer-generated modified maps - or cartograms - redraw the globe with each country's size proportionate to its strengths, or weaknesses, in a whole series of categories."

America likes its toys and its fighter planes apparently.

I thought toy imports were a really neat thing to include.

Truly fascinating! I missed it the first time, so it isn't a double to me!

Does anyone else find it obnoxious that the Daily Mail doesn't credit WorldMapper at all? Or am I missing it?

This is interesting, but these maps are so ugly. The article says this is a collaboration between the University of Michigan and Sheffield (i.e., WorldMapper). I guess the poor map appearance explains why the US and UK are so tiny in the Graphic Design map.

Africa is even worse off than I thought... big on all the negatives, small on all the positives.

Sharp intake of breath at Africa -- it's just a big round ball of "war and death".

It'd be neat to see the maps animate from one stage to another....

That hiv map is ugly. Africa is lika big overripe fruit just about to burst and shover the rest of the world with sticky icky juice.
Also, it's interesting that the toy import of britain is so much bigger than all the other european countries.
