http://www.soundgenerator.com/news/showarticle.cfm?articleid=9390&CFID=2496486&CFTOKEN=31564697 Man! I wasn't expecting to watch a "Snuff film" as the last moments of VH-1's documentary on former TLC singer Lisa "Left Eye" Lopez entitled "Last Days of Left Eye", but that's what happened. You're watching video of her life as she's followed by a camera for an hour and then...BAM!...her SUV goes over a cliff while she's filmed screaming "WHOOOOOAAAA" and that's it, she's dead. It just really shook me up. NOTE: This is my first post and I would have included more information about TLC's mega-successful chart domination, but was unable to properly add links in the Description field. Sorry.

I must have clicked the link in my toolbar three or four times trying to get MeFi to load properly. I was a mite confused.

A square is a certain type of rectangle. All squares are rectangles, but not all rectangles are squares.
A snuff film is a certain type of film of a person dying. All snuff films are films of people dying, but not all films of people dying are snuff films.

What you describe is not a snuff film, just a film of a person dying. Unless, of course, the idea is that VH-1 killed her on purpose in order to film it, which I find unlikely.

Not impossible, just unlikely. :P

Director Lauren Lazin obtained permission from Lopes' family to include the crash clip, and feels certain Lopes would have wanted the film to be broadcast.

Pardon? Here's how that conversation must have gone:

Lisa Lopez: "Hey, guys, I just want you to know something. If I die in a horrific accident, and one of you guys happens to film it, then you MUST show it on a crusty music video channel. For some inexplicable reason, having people see me suffer and then die is really important."

Snuff turns real-life death into pornography. There are many odd individuals around the Internet who like to collect videos of people dying, and who break them out to get their jollies. I'm very sure this video will be added to that collection. So, yes, it ticks more boxes in the "snuff" category than it does in the "documentary" category.

What time was it? Where was I? And how had I become a microscopic invertebrate? I thought to call my friend Gregor, but...

Official on-topic comment:

You know, I don't think I really need to see this video. I was never a fan, and I can't see how watching someone die is going to enrich my morning any.

Thanks anyway.

No, it doesn't. Snuff is a murder committed and filmed exclusively for the purpose of distribution. Catching her accident on tape was just that, an accident. Just as someone blowing his brains out in a news clip that is later purchased by "Too Hot For TV" isn't snuff, neither is this.

This is quite good, by the way.

If your first post is going to be a single link death video you've got to totally own it in the description to make it work. Ask Matt to plug this in the description field for you:

First post ever: Famous chick rolls car off cliff, dies. Awesome! IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT FUCK OFF.

Did I just watch an ad for Coca-Cola? I was going to come in here with a snarky comment about the importance of keeping the right and the left eye on the road, but it looks like Lopes might have been able to control that car a little better had she not been showing off the shiny Coca-Cola box for the camera.

From Roman Graves' link:

"Snuff films are like the Holy Grail. Much talked about, long sought after, but never found."

That is, unless you are Karla Homolka and Paul Bernardo's lawyer following their instructions to that drop ceiling light fixture in the bathroom.
