This post was deleted for the following reason: Ah, looks like we've been Dicked already. -- cortex

Oh how times have changed. I remember in the 80s wallking into Pages Books in Toronto and asking for PK Dick books. The owner, Marc Glasman, a well-respected book seller, said, "Oh, we don't carry books like that!" and referred me to a science fiction bookstore.

Something of a double (though I haven't checked the links for overlap).

Is his shop still there?

Or maybe I should dial in a cheerier setting? 220, "Elation"? How about 6471, "Bookish, with occasional outbreaks of Delight"?

Library of America books are awesome.

When I read these in high-school, I had to hunt them down in used book shops as they were all out of print.

I was aware, uncomfortably, that Old Guy had read the novels. Also uncomfortably, I was unsure of the process by which I had ascertained Old Guy's feelings about the novels. I raced from the dingy restaurant to his place by infra-taxi, my mind reeling with questions for this person. Some time later, when the infra-taxi whirred to a halt, I had a nervous breakdown; it had brought me to my own apartment building.

[this is great news]

Absolutely. It's one of the most respected non-chain stores in the city. They do a great job for the most part but their attitudes are ass. I go there and browse and write down titles to buy elsewhere because I prefer to shop places where the staff have manners.

Double, and I don't know why the LoA didn't choose to include Martian Time Slip, one of his two best novels.

dobbs, it sounds like shopping at Championship Vinyl!

Sorry you've had bad experiences at Pages, dobbs. I've had nothing but good luck there. I do what you do except I do it in reverse: I write down titles at other bookstores and then I buy them (or order them) at Pages.

Also: I'll never forget walking into Pages and buying the magazine containing my first published story. Good times!

And as for Philip K. Dick, I'm still recovering from reading Valis.
