Campaignfilter: Did Hillary Clinton get whacked? What was Phil Leotardo doing there anyway? Vast Right Wing Conspiracy? I heard that if you watch closely, you'll see that cousins of Rove that appeared during Bill's era are actually in one of the booths. Hillary's questionable vehicle for announcing her even more questionable choice in a campaign song hits the Internets.

There's a video on Clinton's website that is like the last scene from the Sopranos. Clinton picked her campaign song, 'You and I' by Celine Dion. That's it.

I would think "picking a campaign song", on the list of "things we care about" vis-a-vis Hillary Clinton running for president, is probably right below "which broach she'll be wearing at the Democratic National Convention, if she wears a broach at all"
Now if she'd just make a clever video to explain her 180-flip on what was formerly a pretty damn good plan for U.S. healthcare and has now become "look, everyone, I'm a whore for BigPharma too!"

This was a very bad idea.
The unprincipled "Sociopath" label will now be firmly affixed and it's meme will be spread by the mouth breathers. The Hannity clones will see this "Hillary as Tony Soprano" as a tacit admission of all their fears.

I view this entire thing as a missed opportunity. There is still a huge amount of time before the election, she should have gone with something funny or ironic to spur her base.
This early on, she isn't going to be converting too many people, she is just reminding them that she is in the race, same as all the other candidates.
Were her team smart, they would have gone with something that would have made people go "crap, I can't believe she had the guts to do that!" Kind of a 'fuck off' to her detractors and a nod to her fans.

OK, I'm in the camp that believes in David Chase's genius and attention to detail in the final scene - even the songs that Tony skipped over while waiting for his family had hidden significance. But David can't hold a candle to whoever put together this parody video. Here's a partial list of songs that Hillary glanced at as Bill came in and sat down:

What planet have people been on if they're not familiar enough with the Sopranos ending to understand this post - especially with a link back to the a discussion ABOUT the Sopranos ending? If you don't get it, as I'm sure a great many of us just don't give a damn or don't get about half of the posts on MeFi, then don't bother with the post or with commenting.
This is metafilter, and posting something like this saying, "Hey, here's a Hillary Clinton Spoof of the Sopranos ending" is about as poor a way to make Mefi interesting as you can get. Granted, if you don't like this post, that's fine, but spelling it all out for you is not going to make it any more interesting to you.

I'm far from a fan of hers, but I don't think Celine Dion is an outrageous choice for a campaign song. It's pure saccharine, but 'My Heart Will Go On' is a good song perfectly suited to that context, and I can also imagine her singing an appropriately 'uplifting' campaign song, such as things are.
Also, I don't believe Celine Dion is "working-class quebecoise." Since she won Eurovision for Belgium I'm not sure she's strictly-speaking 'quebecoise' for one thing, and she doesn't speak joual.

Thank god the music played a few riffs of acoustic guitar and then crashed. I wouldn't have guessed Celine, but that's what the Web site says.
