New PSP, same as the old PSP

Sony have launched a new version of the Playstation Portable (PSP among friends), known as the 'PSP Slim and Lite'. (Video and pictures / review) here. Isn't it weird how companies think they can get away with launching products that are exactly like their old products?

So, really it should be called the 'Not-So-New and Only Slightly Improved PSP'?

Isn't it weird that people tolerate posts to Metafilter about not only new product launches, but launches of products that aren't even new?

Seriously, cut this shit out please.

Weird? No. Uninteresting, dull, happens all the time? Yes.

What? GM and Ford and, well, pretty much every other company on the planet have been "getting away" with this for decades. It would be weird if they did not.

Isn't it weird that some folks think companies ought to only release new products when the new features are things those particular folks want?

And isn't it really weird when those folks expect most other folks to care?

I'm not big on the relevancy callout thing, but I'm kinda with jimbob on this one...

As a sometimes happy PSP owner, I find just the fact that this is lighter the whole point. A PSP isn't exactly heavy, but, like backpacks and purses, tend to get heavier after lugging them around for a while. My girlfriend has a DS, and both machines have their advantages and drawbacks, but the DS is super lightweight, especially compared with the PSP.

So, yes, a lighter PSP is news.

In so far as you can describe anything that gets reported on gadget blogs as news, yes.

...blend?

I don't know, but it sure makes a heck of a dessert topping.

Sometimes, especially when I read posts like this, I wish I had a big, red "X" button next to the back button in my browser. The two buttons would do the same thing, but one would make me feel better.

Wake me when Sony comes out with PSP games that are 33% less ports of games I played five years ago.

Sorry, SharQ. Posts like this need some "clever" ad videos to go over well with this crowd. Maybe you could somehow work in The White Stripes also.

SharQ: most of your posts are product related, which viral marketing firm's payroll are you on and can you get me a job?

yes, but does it blend?

New Rule: If it doesn't merit blending, it doesn't merit a FPP.

A games console (not only that but a redesign of an older console) is enough to make a Metafilter FPP?

J'accuse fanboyism.
