...A non-emergent emergency, it seems.

Oh, the emergencies you don't know about! Yes - A full-blown National U.S. Emergency has, it seems, been declared, and quite recently. Have you heard about it yet? What do you think?

This post was deleted for the following reason: SLBOE - thats sinlge link blog op-ed which isn't really mitigated by linking to the document that the progressive is fuming about. I know this wasn't your main intention, at least I hope not, but this is sort of a "look at these assholes" post on a topic that really good be given some sort of a more serious treatment. -- jessamyn

Is this going to apply to Hezbollah, a legitimate political party in Lebanon?

Oh well, I don't expect this to get much play in the media.

Look, the Decider is doing this to protect us.

Without a National Emergency, the terrorists will surely burn the Reichstag building.

(And yeah, objet, please add the "SurelyThis" tag as Poolio suggests.)

I keep imagining a rational world where the laws once passed on are enforced on the administration itself. Imagine the seizure of the assets of all the people who backed the Iraq war or provided Israel with the weapons used against Lebanon. I think I just tasted chocolate in my mouth a little bit.

It gives to the Secretary of the Treasury the authority to freeze the property of people who are engaging in violence or who “pose a significant risk” of engaging in violence against the Iraqi government or the economic and reconstruction plan for Iraq.

That is pretty brutal. Screwing with people's property is the worst thing someone can do to another human being. Hate me, kill me, but just don't take my stuff.

Huh? Did I hear something about a canine ingesting its own anus?

I was up late debating the very existence of this dog.

Just reading the order, it looks like a cut and paste of that other order. How slowly and completely the mold creeps in.

And don't call me Shirley.

Did you notice the part about not helping the spouses or children of people affected by the order? (Won't someone please think of the children fully matured stem cells?)

We'll see howmany jokes you make when they take your home and your bank account. They could rename it the "Surprise! You're homeless!" Act.

They could rename it the "Surprise! You're homeless!" Act.

Usually these guys give their funtime activities more useful names, like Operation Freedom to Torture Children, or the Halliburton Stockholders Enrichment amendment to the Constitution, or even the Katrina Victims Go Fuck Yourselves Act of 2005, 2006, 2007 and So On. This latest piece of legislation should be more appropriately called the Ironic Proudhon Stealth Wealth Redistribution bill.

When you can't lead through integrity, and you can't lead through honesty, and you can't lead by example, sure, why the hell not just try and lead through bullying and intimidation tactics?

Way to go, W. You're doing a heck of a job restoring decency to the office.

Me, I'd rather have a prez more interested in paying attention to his dick than a prez who wants to get into a cockfight with the entire rest of the world.

Sec. 2. (a) Any transaction by a United States person or within the United States that evades or avoids, has the purpose of evading or avoiding, or attempts to violate any of the prohibitions set forth in this order is prohibited.
Interesting. With the above line, any transaction can be deemed illegal (literally damned if you do and damned if you don't).

So avoiding the prohibition is prohibited. Nice.

When one takes this "national emergency" info and puts it together with all the things the 109th Congress passed which hinge on a national emergency (Habeus Corpus not yet restored, posse comitatus suspendable, commandeering Reserve and National Guard units without gubernatorial permissions, martial law easier) and those detention centers Halliburton built but noone believes Bush will use to hold illegal aliens, one might just want to have the tin-foil hat welded in place.

And why doesn't the administration want to brief Congress on the details of the new plans for continuation of government?

Am I the only paranoid around here?
