Football fans aren't so bright.

The Hilliard, Ohio high school students who pulled it off were later suspended. They were inspired by the Harvard Sucks prank. (via)

Probably would have been funnier if it was at all easy to read. It reminds me of the zug.com super bowl prank where you could barely make out a statement if you looked at it from just the right angle.

It's been done.

Football fans aren't so bright? So if somebody handed you a black sheet of paper you'd be able to surmise what the whole pile would spell out?

What does the fans' "brightness" have to do with this?

I don't know if you can really call them "stupid." Someone from the "pep squad" hands out completely black or completely white signs, and tells you they say one thing. How, exactly, do you figure out if that person's telling the truth about what all your signs say?

Now gullible, gullible's another story entirely.

Football fans aren't so bright.

The whole enterprise is an exercise in groupthink. It's no surprise the student was suspended.

An unoriginal prank executed poorly, then crowded about online? My boy, let me introduce you to the Campus Republicans. So many adventures await you!

You really had to go with "football fans aren't so bright" huh? Example A of how not to make a metafilter post.

I'll save this thread.

Yes. Yes, you did.

The only thing I can think to say - and I mean this as the highest compliment - is this:

Boom Goes The Dynamite.

I just thought I'd post the Blade Runner: Final Cut trailer again.

Its just that cool.

The only part I hate is that they got suspended. There's a tradition of clever unsportsmanlike conduct in college football to which these guys were paying (perhaps unwitting) homage. I know when I was in school, we painted a rival school's mascot our school colors (this was easy, because the statue of the damn thing was sitting right in the middle of campus, completely unprotected. Tag.) It is disturbing that innocent fun is now punishable by suspension. Especially well-planned and well-executed innocent fun.

If we're all linking to other videos, here's the 1940 version of Lord of the Rings.

This doesn't really say much about anything... it's funny, but "Football fans aren't so bright"? I'm about as anti-pro-sports as they come, but if you want to throw a scathing punch at the industry and its fans, this isn't the way to do so. This is just a bunch of people in a crowd, doing as they're told, as most people often do.

Unforgivable.

Football fans aren't so bright.

Not stupid, just gullible. If the fans were truly stupid they wouldn't have followed the directions on the cards and would have completely screwed up the message, don't you think?

Yeah, seriously. But I'll bet the administrators were laughing their asses off, too--probably they're just trying to avert a destructive prank war. These guys were pretty innocent, but the retaliation might not be. (When I was in HS, some clowns from our "rival" decided to drive a car all over our brand-new football field.)

Now here's a not very bright football fan.
Proper football, too.
