My Kid Could Paint That: Marla Olmstead , a six-year-old abstract art prodigy/fraud, is the subject of a new documentary that again asks the question: How do we determine what is considered art? And at the end of the day, does it matter what we think—or only what the “artist” thought.

However we want. I'm suddenly inspired to chug a bottle of Tempra paint and vomit it onto a canvas. That would be art (and as a bonus, a biohazard)! Why? Because I said so and you're in no position to say otherwise.

MikeMc, you might call it art, but it wouldn't make you much money or garner you much fame. The key is to convince other people to call it art. Otherwise, what you want to call "art" will just be called by others "narcissism."

A person can call it "art" all he wants to...but as a viewer, buyer, or critic, I am free to say that it is NOT art.
And as cute as Marla might be, and as colorful as her paintings are, that ain't art. Literally - just about any kid (or mammal with paint and a brush) could do something just as meaningful.
