Could a song called We're All Going to Die really become the UK Christmas number one single?

In both 2005 and 2006 the UK Christmas number one was the winner of the X-Factor. This year the fight is on to reclaim Christmas for real music. Led by Colin Murray, the nations' pop cultural anti-establishmentarians are rooting for Malcolm Middleton. 10 days ago he was a 1000 to 1 longshot, now he's down to 9 to 1. It could be the greatest national act of insubordination since Jedi was recognised as a religion.

This post was deleted for the following reason: There's a UK number one single thread just down the page a bit. Put this there, eh? -- cortex

I'd love to hear a version of this by Kevin DuBrow.

Exhilarating pop song about death by a Scot? If I were in the U.K., I'd help make a hit of it.

That a coincidence, because whenever I see X-Factor I think death would be preferable.

Honestly, is there anyone who isn't sometimes cheered by this thought, especially during the holidays?

It didn't make it to #1, but Country Joe and the Fish's I Feel Like I'm Fixing To Die Rag included the very line" ain't no time to wonder why, whoopee! we're all gonna die".

And of course, the classic Christmas song "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" flirted with the subject matter of death. For more on that, see kirkaracha's excellent post from last year.

I like songs about death.

It started out catchy and then got on my nerves really quick. For me, the quintessential Christmas song about death is Poe's cover of Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer, which is amazingly good.
