With the renewed talk of male prostitution in Washington, one blogger makes the claim that male prostitutes cause less scandal than female prostitutes, because sexism trumps homophobia. (NSFW, images) (via, possible NSFW ads.).

I'm not sure that the blog post itself makes it as the best of the web; it's light on analysis for my taste, a commenter disputes one of the factual claims, there's speculation on someone's sexual preference presented as fact, and there's an obvious counterexample omitted (Sen. David Vitter's use of a female prostitute hasn't killed his career yet.)

...But I think he might just have a very good point. Certainly, it's less taboo for men to have multiple sexual partners, why shouldn't that extend to when the partnership is in exchange for cash?

This post was deleted for the following reason: If your only links are a blog entry that you don't really consider up to snuff and a less-than-a-day-old mefi thread, you should probably hold off and not post. This feels like it's primarly an excuse to state your opinion and start a discussion, which isn't how the front page is supposed to work. -- cortex

The American gay male prostitute conjures up images of prowess, entertainment, stepping stone to a career, political heroes, cultural icons and respectable arm ornaments at fund-raising galas.

Uh, what?
