To the Virgins, to Make Much of Time

Gather ye rosebuds while ye may
This is a slideshow of celebrity photographs comparing their current and younger selves.

I just found it interesting to see how many of these faces had been burned into my memory, and to have those memories disrupted by the realities of age (and plastic surgery). Despite their fame and wealth, many of the subjects come across as victims of a sort. Perhaps they undergo the knife so as to not betray our memories of them.

Here is the full Robert Herrick poem:

To the Virgins, to Make Much of Time

Gather ye rosebuds while ye may,
Old Time is still a-flying:
And this same flower that smiles to-day
To-morrow will be dying.

The glorious lamp of heaven, the sun,
The higher he's a-getting,
The sooner will his race be run,
And nearer he's to setting.

That age is best which is the first,
When youth and blood are warmer;
But being spent, the worse, and worst
Times still succeed the former.

Then be not coy, but use your time,
And while ye may, go marry:
For having lost but once your prime,
You may for ever tarry.

This post was deleted for the following reason: The content here -- celebrity's age, get surgery -- isn't exactly new stuff, the presentation of the photos kind of sucks at that, and you've bizarrely pushing people toward some other bulletin board. This is a pretty strange post. -- cortex

What a freaking bizarre selection of people.

That spread should be called "plastic surgery disasters".

I'm heartbroken to see Faye Dunaway's shiny new veneers. Her rotting, coffee and cigarette colored teeth were part of her down home charm.

I think these celebrities have already gathered lots of rosebuds, particularly in the sense this poem means.

Also, kudos to the Chicago Tribune for not putting these photos side by side. Who knows what horrors might visit upon us if it were at all easy to compare the before and afters!

It should be subtitled "too much mascara"

Faye Dunaway before/after

Those are definitely robo-teeth, now that I look at them.

So the Chicago Tribune has been reduced to US Weekly level photo spreads?
