This post was deleted for the following reason: single link typoed op ed with a lot of RWAR RWAR RWAR language in it and a lot of elided pullquotes. This isn't really a great post for metafilter. -- jessamyn

How large a box does it take to contain a nuclear Iran when it has help from Russia and oil for the rest of the world?

The first thing I will do as president is send Congress my comprehensive plan for achieving energy independence within ten years of my inauguration. We will explore, we will conserve, and we will pursue all types of alternative energy: nuclear, wind, solar, ethanol, hydrogen, clean coal, biomass, and biodiesel.

You don't have to send it to Congress after you're elected, Huckabee. Why don't you put it on the internet so we can all bask in the warm glow of your stupidity?

"Much like a top high school student, if it is modest about its abilities and achievements, if it is generous in helping others, it is loved.

That's not how I remember high school.

How large a box does it take to contain a nuclear Iran...

What nuclear Iran?

Back on topic: I'm glad Huckabee is recommending that his base not vote for him. It makes it easier for the Obama/Edwards ticket to get into office.

Please elaborate. What is stupid about energy independence.

Smells like Civil War. This is a revolution, and the establishment is running scared.

As they should be.

Rice: Huckabee’s Foreign Policy Criticisms Are ‘Simply Ludicrous’
"President Bush’s foreign policy has recently come under fire from several conservatives. In a current Foreign Affairs article, former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee writes that the administration suffers from an ‘arrogant bunker mentality.’ Former U.N. ambassador John Bolton wants the United States to be more arrogant, saying that Bush’s policies are in ‘free fall’ because he is ‘under the influence of Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.’

Today in a press briefing, a reporter asked Rice to respond to their criticisms. Rice initially refused, dismissing them as unimportant. But she nevertheless proceeded into a vigorous defense of the administration’s policies, eventually calling the statements ‘ludicrous’:
RICE: Look, I don’t comment on other people’s comments. I don’t have time, all right. I really don’t have time to worry about this. […]

The idea that somehow this is a go-it-alone policy is just simply ludicrous. And one would only have to be not observing the facts, let me say that, to say that this is now a go-it-alone foreign policy. […]

And so, I would just say to people, look at the facts."Uh, Condi -- a look at the Bush administration’s inclusive foreign policy: "World Publics Reject US Role as the World Leader."

What in God's name is an arroagen bunker? Is this some kind of guerilla warfare term?

As president, my goal in the Arab and Muslim worlds will be to calibrate a course between maintaining stability and promoting democracy. It is self-defeating to attempt too much too soon: doing so could mean holding elections that the extremists would win.

Problem is, it's extremely difficult to know when to switch from your "maintaining stability" bombs to your "promoting democracy" bombs in order to get exactly the democratic outcome you're after.

"...Islamic terrorists...really do want to...destroy civilization as we know it."

You lost me right there, Mike. Unless you mean "civilization as we know it" as in, "flat-out invading two predominately Moslem nations while keeping military presences in several others, most notably the one where Mecca and Medina are located." -- I don't think their wanting to destroy that kind of civilization is a useful answer, but I can sort of understand the sheer frustration and rage that inspires it. If we were out of their hair to a greater degree, they probably wouldn't care less about Baywatch, secular humanism, and general Godlessness. (Pro-Israeli stance notwithstanding, of course.)
