Tony Blair and the Catholic Church

Tony Blair should not have been received said this Guardian leader the other day, where a correspondent later writes "The decision by the Catholic Church to admit Blair without a full, public repentance for his acts over Iraq is a case of low standards in high places." In 2004 Mr Blair explained he won't become a Catholic and some may see the former Prime Minister's volte face last month a re-enactment of Godfather III? (smile) - Central message: I do not distrust Mr Blair but doubt church motives. It's not as if they need the money.

This post was deleted for the following reason: You've presented this really, really badly. Overselling an issue with this kind of editorialization (and recapping your message for us!) is not a good way to frame a post. -- cortex

This is a collision of so many things that set people off around here -- the IRAQWAREEVIL factor, the BLAIR=LAPDOG factor, the OMGXIANS and EEVLCATHOLICS factors, the AXEGRIND factor with the Godfather III reference and the "need the money" dig....

Wow. I mean, this is either going to be deleted before comment 25, or it's the perfect storm. The book, not the movie.

If the Roman Catholic church truly reflected the values of Jesus Christ, then Tony Blair should not have been received into communion.

So you're telling me the RCC was playing in politics that don't jibe with its teachings? Wow. That's new.

(on preview-- OMGEEVLCATHOLICS!!!!!!)

Um, a vicar's letter to the Guardian does not a leading article make.

Also, confession of sins is a matter for a parishioner and his priest. Not being privy to this, how do we know whether or not Blair has repented of his sins?

WOOT, an opportunity to be irrationally bitter about shit!

Can everyone stand by while I look up a few dozen priest-molestation jokes? Thank you.

Wow. This post is so shitty it ought to be a like an example of what a post should not be. I mean, some posts are just plain bad. But this post is like someone tried to make an exemplar of a Bad Metafilter Post.
