Minus is a webcomic about a girl that has the power to change anything around her. Richly illustrated and nominated for an Eisner award.

Minus fits the category "best of the web" to a T. I love the old-timey newspaper comic conceit, and the writing is magical.

I'm just happy that they didn't actually name a cartoon award after Michael Eisner.

aw, it's so cute and innocent the way she terrorizes and kills people.

Denizens of Metafilter:
Please stop posting links to good webcomics. You know what I'm talking about, those beautifully illustrated, brilliantly written, funny or dramatic, poignant or just plain silly, pieces of art. I know I once asked for more, but I need to redact that. You see, I'm married, and I need to spend time with my honey. Also, I'm trying to get through grad school and this is much more interesting than this.
Continue posting links to bad webcomics, or webcomics about things which I am not interested in (sports and cars, mostly).
Sincerely,
arcticwoman

This double post is a victim of obscure description suckage.

Wow, that's really amazing. I can't think of anything I've read since Calvin and Hobbes that quite managed to simultaneously capture the playfulness, cruelty, and loneliness of childhood imagination.

I'm so glad you brought that up. It's such a refreshing perspective on things that really brings something new and interesting to the discussion.

I'd like to rephrase as "Fictional omnipotent being acts capriciously and sometimes viciously toward mortal humans, news at eleven."

Frankly, I liked the artwork, but didn't see much imagination. This doesn't compare with Calvin and Hobbes in my book. The story lines are very similar, for one thing. Nope - looks to me like a good artist without much ability in the story department.

Also, isn't "Minus" a dude?

Blagh, you're right, they are all the same. Also, is it me or is there a noticeable change in the tone of the strip after the first dozen or so once she acquires friends?

I take it back, she appears to be a chick.

I went back to the first few and liked them. But what has happened to the most current comics? Seems like she either ran out of ideas or I'm just not getting the humor behind them. The illustrations are still great, though.

This is such a good comic. It's up there with my favorites: this one, this one (which, sadly, appears to be dead) and this one (which may be a little too cheer-up-emo-kid for some people's tastes, and it's certainly WAY too busy in the story department, but I think it's awesome, and much less precious and twee than it looks on first glance).

A beautiful comic. I couldn't step away until I'd gone through them all. It really captures a child's imagination and perspective on the world. Thanks for posting!

Achewood is much better, even though this has better art.

That's what I thought too. It was really kind of disturbing. People referenced Calvin & Hobbes, but while there was, I guess you would call it 'violence' it was always in Calvin's imagination, while in this comic it's happening to putative "other people" who exist in Minus's world. And omnipotent people are not exactly sympathetic characters.
