Hi, my name is lattiboy (Hi lattiboy!), and I'm a cheap bastard

Are you cheap? I am. I thought I'd give MetaFilter readers who aren't in the know the lowdown on the best places where you can make $250 after 17 mail-in-rebates and 2 short surveys!. Be warned(!): You will never again be able to enjoy a normal trip to the ol' big box store without the knowledge that you're probably being ripped off. The sites:

Ben's Bargains
Fatwallet Hot Deal's Forums
SlickDeals
Deal News (most organized deal site by many orders of magnitude)
DealDigg
Wired Deals (tracks FatWallet and SlickDeals for the most highly rated posts, a real time saver for the non-obsessive types)

This post was deleted for the following reason: Setting aside the issue of using the More Inside section to keep your post from sprawling all over the front page (that is, please do so in the future), at least half the sites here are in the post you link back to. It's kind of a weird intentional-double thing. -- cortex

I'm still waiting for the 250.00 rebate from the TV I bought two years ago. Rebates are now just flags to me that say DO NOT BUY.

Will any of these links provide me with free orange juice?

Whoa. I'm pretty sure this isn't what MetaFilter is for.

Not without a coupon.

I better don't click any of those lest my enjoyment of the ol' big box store gets spoiled.

I guess I'm getting it, because I couldn't tell you specifically why, but I just know this is wrong.

Like dogs and cats living together.

Unless "ironic favouriting" is the new joke I'm not hip to, you people are encouraging this kind of crappy FPPing.

Don't we have a "we hate this posting" button?

I stay away from those sites like Captain Trips.
They unfortunately encourage me to buy crap I don't really need.
If you're looking for something really specific, I could see the use, but just flicking through only leads to impulse buying in a second, and buyers remorse upon receipt of my credit card bill.

MIR == Yes, I would like to give $CORPORATION an interest-free loan for as long as they feel like taking to pay me back, how did you know?!

Well, glad to see everybody getting behind hating the post! Jeebus people, I know it isn't Kimmel's latest response to whomever is fucking his girlfriend, but come on now. If you don't like the post just flag it, don't get all snarky........ sorry, I forgot where I posted this.

Flagged.

What, exactly, is the point of a rebate, anyway? Why not just offer a discount? Why am I giving you all that money when you're just going to send half of it back?

Asking mefites to not be snarky is like asking Picasso to not use so much blue. It's how we roll.

It's like a discount, only most people won't take it, and you can safely ignore it when they do.

Yeah not the greatest of of posts but certainly not the worst. I didn't know about wireddeals so thanks for that.

This is useful, but I'd want to find info like this in an AskMe answer rather than an FPP. Thanks for the kind thoughts (wanting to save me money) and all, though.

The double posting aspect here is the clincher. The other post may be old, but it's most of what you've put here, no?

I'm with you on hating rebates, but with "ebates" (undoubtedly the worst new word in many years), they've become much easier to track and redeem.

What makes you think I didn't flag your post before being snarky? What about your post says "best of the web" to you? Here's why I flagged it:

1. Almost all of your links are in the "previously" link.

2. The entire post is comprised of links to the front pages of very popular sites. Wired Deals? Slickdeals? Are you new to the Internet or something?

3. "Save money with rebates!" Are you kidding me? A contentless borderline repeat post about rebates? Does MetaFilter look like the Sunday Po-Dunk County Times store coupon insert?
