Sinbad Speaks

In her Iowa stump speech, Clinton also said, "We used to say in the White House that if a place is too dangerous, too small or too poor, send the First Lady." Say what? As Sinbad put it: "What kind of president would say, 'Hey, man, I can't go 'cause I might get shot so I'm going to send my wife...oh, and take a guitar player and a comedian with you.'"

Hey yeah, whatever happened to Sinbad, anyway?

Sinbad's been working hard to get on the front page of TalkingPointsMemo -- see his profile here*.

* - No, I'm not quite sure it's the actual entertainment legend.**
** - Legend, come on, it sounds good.

Simply put: She's a liar. I'm pretty sure we can all agree on that at this point.

I never thought I'd say this, but if he can permanently derail this ridiculous phone-answering-capability meme once and for all, Sinbad just might redeem himself. As second acts go, it beats Dancing With the Stars.

I'm surprised, however, that in his firsthand description of that harrowing journey with the First Lady to the former Yugoslavia, he never managed to work in a single line assessing the size and quality of the booty he saw there.

I want to hate this post, but I can't. Because of Sinbad.

I also note this from the same piece:

Still, defending Clinton against Sinbad the refuter, Singer said, "The sad reality of what was going on in Bosnia at the time Senator Clinton traveled there as first lady has been well documented. It appears that Sinbad's experience in Bosnia goes back further than Senator Obama's does. In fact, has Senator Obama ever been to Bosnia?"

At least we know that, according to the Clinton campaign, Sinbad passes the commander-in-chief threshold.

I had no idea Sinbad was even running. I propose that his running mate be the homunculus from the Golden Voyage of Sinbad.

my spellcheck thinks "homunculus" should be "carbuncular".

I want to hate this post

There is no good reason to hate this post. After all, if America winds up with four more years of divisive partisan hackery and stagnant triangulation, then this post will be an important milestone on that road:

Here, America, here where the former First Lady's high-priced bare-knuckled operatives went after an all-but-forgotten comedian with hands full of muck and tar over the veracity of his memories of a long-gone USO tour, thus to prove the superior wisdom drawn from her many years of experience - here is where your political culture, briefly returned to a smooth road worthy of your proud history, veered again into the ditch.

Sinbad the Refuter sounds like an obscure entry in the New Advent Catholic Encyclopedia about the Fourth Crusade.

Color me amazed by the Clinton campaign's immediate spin from, "Hillary's a liar" to "Even Sinbad has more foreign policy experience than Obama."

I mean I hate it, but that was a little bit of genius.

What I have learned from this thread:
  • Hillary Clinton lies
  • Sinbad is moderately funny
  • Barack Obama may never have been to Bosnia
Actually I lied. I already knew the first one.

At the rate she is going, Hillary is going to pry "operation foot-bullet" away from the anti-Scientologists.

This whole campaign and its twists and turns have left me with one conclusion - Vonnegut was right:

There is a tragic flaw in our precious Constitution, and I don't know what can be done to fix it. This is it: Only nut cases want to be president.

Awesome. We have now moved past accusations of misogyny to accusations of misogynistic words or deeds that haven't even happened yet.

I can't believe this got a post. But it does give me an excuse to link to Michael Miner's take:
As he'd long since learned to do when these intimate conversations took a familiar turn, Last refocused. "Anyway, the problem at hand is to demonstrate that I was cool and collected in a crisis and you learned from the master."

"Even better," said Next, "is to demonstrate that I was cool and collected in a crisis and you leaned heavily on my clear thinking and resolve."

"Let’s not push it," said Last. "I'm trying to remember just what crises did rear their ugly heads at 3 AM. Rwanda?"

"We probably don't want to belabor Rwanda," said Next.

"Anyway," Last remembered, "I think that call came in after lunch."

Yeah, I kind of did too. But like Carrot Top, it's always interesting when you learn that there are actually people around that like him. Things that make you go: "huh."

Iowa? So there was an election there?

I'm not sure that there really are people who like Carrot Top. I think that there are people with no sense of humor who are charged with booking acts, and for some reason they think that Carrot Top is the kind of act that people with senses of humor find funny. That's how he keeps getting gigs. That and always being available when someone cancels at the last minute.

No! It was only a caucus!

I was going to pass by without comment, until I saw the caption for the photo on the article: “Sinbad, performing in 2007 for shareholders of Wal-Mart.” Wha?

We need to be fair and balanced, though. What do Carrot Top, Gallagher and Yakov Smirnoff think?

Not that I disagree with him, but come on. Sinbad.

I flew into L.A. after Christmas, and I was at the carousel waiting for my luggage, and what do you know, Sinbad was standing right there next to me. I don't usually expect things like that right out of the blue.
