Various Identity Models

Sorry this is my first MeFi post.
I learned about those identity models in a diversity class. Most students where able to identity their stages on each model. However, none of them challenged the models at all.
I disagree that stages can't be skipped. My instructor mentioned that people often get stuck in the immersion stages of the models, but didn't explain why.
Since no one challenged or gave strong opinions of the above models, I'm curious what people here on MeFi think about the models.

Is "identity model" standard terminology? Is this from some sort of therapy approach? It's not clear from what I can google...
