How is babby faked?

A prominent women gives birth late in life. In the advanced stages of pregnancy, she takes a dangerous trip to a distant city, not under her doctor's care. Or did she fake the birth, to protect a family fortune? The ensuing scandal absorbed the attention of the great minds of her time, cost millions over the course of a long legal battle, and would change her country's political landscape for years hence.
